We spend the rest of the day in the hotel room. Four and a half hours have passed now since the Malagan incident. As I'm sitting in the corner chair playing video games, I notice that jack looks like he's spaced out. laying on the bed, staring at the ceiling. I can only imagine what is going through his mind right now.
"Are you doing okay, Jack?", I say as I pause my game to check on him. He turns his head to me and doesn't say anything, but his face says more than words could do.
Knowing that Jack has barely eaten anything today, I make my way to the kitchen and make him whatever I could find. While I was preparing the instant noodles I found, I hear jack finally speak up from the living room.
"This all doesn't make sense..", he says, and without even seeing him I could hear that he tried hard to get even those few words out. I lean around the corner, to see Jack still being the sad sack that he is since nearly 4 hours now. "It doesn't", I say in a soft tone to not sound unfeeling."How are you so sure about that?", he replies rather naive. "Think about it", I answer while continuing to make him the noodles. "There's no bloody way the police haven't heard of it. Either the girl at the reception was incompetent, or they are trying to hide something."
"And the thing with the news is suspicious as well", I continue, while bringing Jack the noodles. "Knowing the media, the news would usually talk about this all day."
"Thank you, Tom", Jack says in a soft tone, thanking me for the noodles. He usually only calls me with Tom when he wants to say something either serious or more personal. I reply with a soft smile."I'm telling you,", I begin. "Something is very wrong about this.". "I agree", Jack replies with his mouth full.
"How about we investigate on that? Y'know, detective work and all that.", I ask Jack. He looks at me rather surprised for a moment, then smiles slightly and nods. "We've seen enough episodes of Law and Order to know how this stuff works, he replies jokingly.
