"Alice! Wake up!" my mom said from the other side of the door, I quickly sat up and looked at the clock. "The first day of school!" I said rushing off my bed and going to my closet to get my uniform, "Alice you better be ready we can't have you and your siblings being late on your first day!" my mom said sounding as if she was in a hurry. "I'm just putting on my shoes mom, I'll be right down!" I said as she went down stairs mumbling, I quickly changed my clothes, put on my shoes, and got my book bag. I went downstairs to the living room in a hurry, everyone looked at me and stared.
"Why are you guys looking at me like that?" I said confused, as Christopher and Alexander started laughing. "What happened to your hair sweetie?" my mom said walking over to me, Katie took out her phone and started taking pictures. I looked at the mirror next to me, my hair looked like a clown's afro, and I ran upstairs to the bathroom and locked myself in there. "It's not that bad Alice" my dad said knocking on the door, I took the brush from the sink and began to brush my hair quickly. "Can you please hurry up already Alice?" Katie said sounding annoyed, "its school Katie, calm down" I said putting my hair up in a ponytail and opening the door.
"Since when did you start putting your hair up in a ponytail?" Katie said taking another picture. "Don't worry about it Katie, and stop taking pictures" I said exiting the bathroom and going downstairs. "That's much more like it" mom said with a smile, "Let's go shall we?" I said walking outside and into the car.
After about thirty minutes of being trapped in a car with my siblings and mother, we finally got dropped off. As soon as I got out the car everyone started staring at us. Alexander would pull on my skirt, "Alice... why are they staring at us?" he said looking up at me, "Because we are such beautiful siblings I guess" I said smiling down at him and holding his hand "Don't worry Alexander we'll get through this whole 'new kids' stage" I said leading him inside as Katie and Christopher stayed behind giving nasty looks at the other students. "Keep looking at me and I will make sure you can't see anything else!" Christopher shouted from behind us.
I took Alexander to his class and then went on my way to find MY class, I was doing so well until some boy tripped and fell onto me. "Can you like... get off me?" I said trying to push him off me, as everyone around us started chanting "New girls got a crush!" he slowly got off me and got up, reaching his hand out to try and help me up. I took his hand and stood up, "Sorry about that" he said placing his hand around his neck embarrassed. "It's okay I've had worse times than this" I said to him, "I'm Davon by the way" he said shaking my hand. He was a tall guy around the age of thirteen, he had a bright smile, tan, and black curly hair. "I'm Alice" I said smiling at him, before we knew it we began to hang out at lunch and do homework together.
After lunch a few days later, I asked Ms. E, my reading teacher if I could go to the restroom, she smiled at me and gave me permission to go. When I entered the bathroom I went in the big stall and began to wash my hands, "Clean your hands well" a voice said from behind me. I quickly jumped and turned around, it was a small girl, around the age of twelve standing behind me, she was pale like a ghost, her cheeks were pink, hair was short and dark brown, and her eyes were hazel. "It's okay don't pee yourself, the stalls are not that far away from you" she said crossing her arms. "I'm not scared, but who are you?" I asked walking toward her, "The name's Juliet, but you can call me Julie" she said as she put on a bow on her head. "Hey Julie did you find the-"another girl said as she entered the bathroom. She was a girl a bit taller than Juliet, tanned skin, long jet black hair, with eyes as dark as a gothic person's clothes, "That's my best friend, Beatrice" Juliet said as she took out a phone from her pocket, "Here's your phone" Juliet said handing over the phone to Beatrice, "I thought you lost it" Beatrice said taking the phone and rolling her eyes. I could tell these two were a unique pair of best friends, and honestly I'd like to have a best friend relationship like this too.
"Well, I'm Alice 'the new girl' and I really got to go but I'll see you girls around" I said drying my hands and then going to the door, until another girl entered the bathroom hitting me with the door, causing me to fall flat on the ground. This girl was a really tall girl, kind of reminded me of slender-man, she had short black hair, dark brown eyes and freckles. "And then there's Lizzie swinging doors in the bathroom trying to hurt the new girl" Beatrice said shaking her head and then walking over to me and helping me up. "Not my fault she was standing by the door" Lizzie said placing her hands on her hips, "You know what else won't be your fault?" Beatrice said crossing her arms and giving Lizzie a deathly glare. "What shorty?" Lizzie said looking down at Beatrice, "The beating that I'm about to give you!" Beatrice said as Juliet ran toward Beatrice and began to hold her back.
"I'm SO scared Beatrice!" Lizzie said, I looked out the small little window that was on the door to the bathroom and saw a little hand placed on the glass. "Dang it... just when things were getting normal" I thought to myself, "Well girls I will be in class nice meeting you all, except for you Lizzie" I said smiling and exiting the bathroom.
The rest of the day I just sat in my seat looking outside the window to see if I would see the little girl or not... but not a thing was seen. This little girl isn't going to make it easy for me to live my new life, I sighed looking over at Davon, as he was talking to Lizzie, which was really unusual of him since he's always talking about how annoying she is, and how she won't leave him alone.
The bell rung a few minutes later, Ms. E. released us after we packed up and Beatrice caught up to me. "Where are you going new girl?" Beatrice said walking beside me, "Home, where else would I go?" I said looking at her, "Well kids at Clover's Grove don't really like to go home as soon as school ends, we usually hang out at the café across the street" Beatrice said pleased at me "Why don't you join us tomorrow?" she added, "I will see if I can make it, if anything I'll just" before I could finish what I was going to say Beatrice said "Just text me" as she took out a pen and wrote her number on my arm "Be safe new girl" she said walking away and joining Juliet and Davon.
When I got home I went straight to my dad, because I figured there would be no reason to ask my mom if I could stay after school since she always says "go talk to you dad" so I went to the sofa where my dad was sitting watching boxing, "Papi?" I said sitting down next to him and shining my brightest smile ever "Que quires Alice" my dad responded, "Can I stay after school?" I asked him, hoping he's say that I could stay, "Por qué?" my dad asked, "Because I want to help my friend" I said lying to him, "All of a sudden kids can't ask their teachers for help?" He said shaking his head, "Fine I will let you help your friend, but remember what I told you" he said looking at me serious "I know, I tell him I only have three months to live and don't want him to get attached, to then be heartbroken" I said laughing a little and soon my dad began to laugh soon "I'm playing with you Alice you can have a boyfriend but please at least make sure he is smart" my dad said smiling at me. I felt a bit bad to have lied to him, but I just want to blend in with the others, even if it meant that I would have to lie to my father.
