And that's when the room started spinning, and fading to black.
"'Just tell her' you said! 'She needs to know' you said! Why do I ever listen to your dumbass!"
"So you're blaming me for her passing out? Cara basically kidnapped her and put her in the garden. We have no clue how the guards took care of her, because, in case you haven't noticed Josh, Cara's regime is completely different then our man whore of a fathers! "
"Do NOT blame our sister for Scarlett passing out!"
" Why the Hell not? It is her fault! She's the one who wanted her here! We agreed with Erick that Scar needed to be protected from this bullshit! "
"Because whether we like it or not, Cara, our baby sister, or well, just little I guess cause Scarlett's the youngest now, is the Queen. She isn't the girl we used to blackmail into doing the dishes for us any more! She is the monarch of the Olsen faction now. We don't get the choice to question her. Do you wanna end up like Hope?"
"DON'T YOU DARE USE OUR OLDER SISTER AGAINST ME JOSHUA!"
"Well if I don't Sevrin I don't see how I can get it through your thick skull. The little sister that we knew, that we loved is gone. Cara isn't the same she hasn't been since she took this crown when Steven retired."
"You really think that I don't know that?" Sevrin voice broke, "I was there when she killed Hope for daring to try and protect herself." Quietly he continued, "Watched as she had our sister torn limb from limb, you really think that I believe that this Cara, the Cara running things now, is the same Cara we used to drive to school, and whose boyfriends we used to threaten?"
I hear Josh sigh. "I'm sorry Sev. I didn't know you had to-"
"Its fine. Better me than Erick or you having been there. We both know that."
"Yeah."
I took this as a good opportunity to "wake up", and show them that they don't have to worry. Explain that I didn't pass out from being neglected in that place they called 'the garden'.
Allowing my eyes to flutter, and raising my hand to block some of the lights in the room from getting to my eyes so they could adjust, I slightly groan. I hear Josh and Sevrin rush over to me, I look to my left and see the concerned forest green eyes of Josh. "Are you okay, Scarlett? What happened? "
"Its fine, Josh don't worry," I say g icing him my most convincing smile. "I think I was just shocked to hear that I'm not exactly human, like I thought I was. "
"See Josh!" Sevrin exclaims, waving his arms over me, like a spastic teenager explaining to their parent why they need to take the family car to a party, "I told you that baby sis was fine!"
Josh rolls his eyes and says, "Uh huh, Sev sure." Sevrin doesn't see and starts smiling like the car that are the canary and crosses his arms over his lanky chest. "So, Scarlett, do you remember what we were discussing before you, umm, went down?"
I nod, "Yeah, and that the last thing you said was that we're a family of witches."
"Okay, okay, good," Josh started to pace next to her, wringing his hands nervously.
"Is he always like this?" I ask Sevrin.
"Yep. You get used to it though," Sevrin responds as he starts to play with the ends of my long dark hair , it standing out next to his pale skin.
"Okay, so, you know what we are. The Carlisle's are vampires, they control the northern faction of the quarter. That's where all of their mind live. Like how all of our kind the witches love here in the southern faction. Do you understand so far?"
After I nod, because my brain can only do one thing, speak or process information at a time, he continues. "Then there are the Sloan's, the Fae. They live in the eastern faction. Normally unless some one needs something that's specific to a certain region of the city, or they're traveling out of the city or they're a diplomat for a faction, or something similar, there's both really any cross over. You stay with your species, unless you're human. The average human population has no clue that these areas really are in place. They don't really care about what we all do as long as it doesn't effect them. That's how we stay hidden, which is why our ancestors set up the factions, because-" and then Sevrin for bored and cut him off.
"Because if all the factions are able to mix there's gonna be too many fights, or too !any killings in too small and area, there could be inter-species marriage and then we have a shower creature that need to be killed and then there could be a war, or a while bunch of other deadly, weird crap that Steven used to tell us to scare us into doing the house work he was too cheap to hire a maid for. "
"Yes, Sev, because this is such a joking matter, the possibility of the factions going to war and the city, our home burning to the ground in glad it's so hilarious to you. " Josh says, getting visibly angry at our brother.
"Well that kinda already happened under the Horrors' regime didn't it? That's why the West faction is just humans now and the Barrett's and the shifters were all killed off!"
"You seriously blame our grandfather for that? That was the decision of a council, that he just happened to be a part of! It was not his choice alone. The shifters were planning a coup against the faction system that had kept so many safe for centuries on end. For no reason! They were willing to risk the lives of everyone in the city. Guilty and innocent. You cannot use what happened to the Barrett family as a source of influence when it comes to the history of this city because they were willing for it to burn, for a temper tantrum. Nothing more, Sevrin."
"So there was once more then three factions?" I hesitantly ask Josh.
"Yes. And the three current factions, with the rulers they had then, decided it would be in the best interest of the city of them and their species was no longer apart of the community of New Orleans," Josh explained, his voice and face completely devoid of emotion.
At this point I began to wonder what exactly kind of family I had just found.
