Nani woke up coughing up water And taking a deep breath, She sat up on the surfboard Ana Taavi and Akela had lay her on and looked up at them. "aloha aku nei au akua" (thank god) said Ana with her hands in a praying position above her head. "I thought you where a goner" said Taavi as he sat down beside her. "Wow..thanks for having hope in me Taavi" Nani commented sarcastically. "What happened?" Asked Nani breathlessly "you fell of your surfboard and somehow ended up in the reef" answered taavi.'It WAS real' Nani thought. You where laying on the seabed of the reef just stairing at the sky" said Akela seeming very confused while looking down at Nanis camera in his hands. "why do you look concerned? I'm alive" "Yeah" Said Taavi "but that's not what we're confused about" He said as he put his hand on her knee "you had your camera still around your neck,it had several random black pictures." Said Akela
"The time on the screen was 6:30 started Taavi "the time we where surfing when you want under the wave was around 6:04 and it's now 7;02 you would have been unconscious for that amount of time being unable to breath" finished Akela. " but the time when the pictures were taken means you couldn't have possibly taken those pictures" Anyway what IS important is that everyones okay "Said Ana as she rubbed Nanis shoulder They all nodded agreeing. Nani sat still for a while and no one said anything till Taavi broke the silence. "Anyone up for a smoothie or a juice?" "On the house" He Said and stood up. Everyone agreed and headed towards Taavi's juice hut.The night had fallen and everyone had gone home and to bed. Everyone except Nani, she stayed up drawing sketches of the shark and it's eyes and tail and trying to search up the strange shark she saw in the reef. As she stepped back to look at her bedroom walls they where covered in Sketches and colour patterns, different species of sharks and the photos she had taken in the reef. She examined the photos multiple times but they still remained black with no little pint of light or flash of silver nor aqua glow on the photos. Nani wrote on a post it note
glow koʻokoʻo niuhi (glow stick shark)
as she called it. Eventually she pulled down the drawings, pictures and sketches and pinned them to a cork board and pushed it under her bed along with a book with information in it so no one saw the seketches.she climbed under her blankets falling asleep just happy to be home safe.Nani woke to loud shouting beside her face. "Nani? Nani?" "Are you okay?" Exclaimed Ana crouched beside Nanis bed waking her up "Yes I'm fine, why?" Said Nani still half asleep. "You where repeating the words glow akoʻokoʻo niuhi (glow stick shark) in your sleep...do you know why?" I'm not sure maybe it was just a funny dream" said Nani following with a fake laugh.
Nani continued to visit the reef every morning at the same time. crawling into the hole and studying the glowstick shark. It seemed like she didn't even need to breath down there. The shark became aware that Nani did not want to harm her after a short few days.
Nani never found anything about a silver shark with smoking aqua eyes and tail of lace that shines like a glow stick, not on the internet national geographic websites nor any aquamarine books.
And no one ever would as Nani continues to visit the glow stick sharks every morning noting stuff about them and butting it in a book, at the same time every morning without anyone finding out, Nani wanted it to be in piece with just a get short visits from her and only her. To this day the glow stick shark remains a secret and the reef has been untouched by everyone expected Nani and the beautiful creatures that live there.I really hope you liked this book!
I had heaps of fun writing it. It's my first book and I'm pretty happy with it
Please leave a comment if you think another book would be a good idea 🤗
