chapter four!
Smiling Like An Idiot

Zach's POV

Reputation is huge in the society we live in. Which is great for me, cause mine sucks. I used to have the golden reputation but being good all the time is boring. Sometimes you just gotta live a little.

People used to say that it was because of Jack, Jonah, Daniel, and Corbyn that I was acting out. No one says that anymore though, cause the truth was, I was worse than all of them. I think we all helped each other live a little more.

We all stood at our hangout place, each of us with a bottle of beer in our hands. Having alcohol definitely wasn't the worst thing we've done but it was illegal, which was still a good thrill for us.

"Sometimes Christina will just get mad at me for not showing up to class. It's stupid," Corbyn rolled his eyes before taking another drink from his bottle.

"It's a mystery she's still with you," Jonah said under his breath before taking another drink from his own drink.

"What do you mean?" Corbyn wrinkled his nose.

"Well, no offense, but you're kinda stupid. If you're gonna have a girl, be there for her," Jonah explained, "You can't skip shit just to drink with your friends." Jonah looked down at the bottle he held in his hands. He shook his head and set it down. Maybe, unlike what we thought earlier, hanging out with Damion Cross really was changing Jonah.

"You used to skip shit all the time to drink with us, fucker," Corbyn growled.

"Yo, Corb, calm down. Damn," Daniel shook his head.

"I just think there's more important stuff going on then getting drunk and high. Like, what about college? Or a career?" Jonah asked. Both Jack and Corbyn broke out into a laughter.

"You think you'll get into college?" Corbyn laughed.

"Yeah, actually I do," Jonah said, standing up straight. Shit was about to go down.

"Leave Jo alone," I sighed, "He's probably the only one of us who has a chance at a future."

"Future's stupid. Just live in the moment. If you keep preparing yourself for the future you're going to miss out on the stuff right in front of you," Jack told Jonah. Jonah lost it, he punched Jack right in the face. It fell quiet for a second. This definitely wasn't the first time one of us had punched each other. In fact, each one of us here had probably punched everyone here.

Jack touched at his lip, some blood on his fingers.

"What the hell?!" Jack yelled. He pushed Jonah who only pushed him back.

"Knock it off!" Daniel yelled, "God, I just wanted to have a chill night with my friends but apparently that can't happen! Both of you need to grow up!"

"I'm thinking realistically! Jack is the one who's trying to still be fourteen!" Jonah protested. Daniel glared at both of them, and they both shut up. Jack picked up his drink again but Jonah left his alone. I took another drink as I watched this all play in front of me.

It was silent for a few more minutes, until Jack turned his attention towards me.

"What do you think of the girl you were talking to today? I think her name is Karissa," Jack said.

"Karissa Stewart?" Jonah asked. I shrugged, taking another drink. It only had been coincidental that I hit her with a door twice today. I didn't want to think too much of it.

"She had Zach smiling like an idiot before we walked up to him," Jack said.

"Not even," I shook my head and rolled my eyes. I had laughed, but I was only laughing at my own joke. She had just been there. That's all I wanted to think about it.

"I heard she's dating Damion Cross. That could just be a rumor though," Corbyn shrugged. It felt like Damion had been our main topic of conversation tonight, and I hated it. Almost as much as I hated him. I took another drink of my beer.

"No, I heard her friend, Hannah, is dating Damion," Jack said.

"He's not dating either of them," Jonah rolled his eyes. I felt a smile appear on my face, probably because of Jonah's reaction to the rumors.

"There he is, smiling like an idiot again," Jack laughed.
