Josh's P.O.V.

My name is Joshua. Ten years ago, our ship crash landed on earth. We came here seeking refuge but the humans thought it was an invasion. That night, I met a human boy who tried to protect me. A boy I never thought I'd see again. The surviving members of my race, the Atrians, were rounded up and isolated inside a militarized sector. Now, it's 2024. Seven of us have been chosen to attend high school as a part of a government integration program. But the humans and the Atrians continue to distrust each other. While I fight to protect my people and the human boy who saved my life at any cost.

Ten Years Ago

As my eyes fluttered open I realised I had no clue where I was. Everything hurt. As my hearing started to come back I heard bangs and screams. Atrians crying.

I sat up and looked down and my body. No big injuries, just scratches. I put my hand to my head and felt blood coming from it. I need to find safety, shelter. I had to get away from here.

I ran as fast as I could, though every step strung pain. I pushed past that because I knew much worse would happen if I stayed. I saw houses that humans occupied. Everyone had shut their lights, probably hiding. I found one home that had a shed. The door was open. It was my best shot.

I snuck in to the back and saw that a back light was on. I snuck through trying to not get noticed. Once I got to the shed I closed the door slowly behind me and ran to the back hiding.

As I sat there I thought that I had made it clear and that no one had saw me. Until the door open and a human boy around the same age as me walked through the doorway.

"Hello." I heard him say trying to keep his voice down.

I didn't know what to do. I didn't know if he was going to hurt me or not. But for some odd reason I felt as though I could trust him. Something about him made me want to be closer. So I came out from my spot and that's when he saw me.

"It's okay. It's okay." He said noticing how scared I was, "you're one of them. Aren't you?"

I nodded my head to his question. He stared at me and smiled, "I'll be right back."

He then left the shed and closed the door behind him. I had no clue what he was doing. I hid back behind the cupboard.

The door opened once more and the boy reappeared. He didn't bring anyone with him, just a blanket.

"It's okay." He said as he wrapped me up inside of the blanket.

He then sat down across from me and smiled. He had bright blue eyes and dimples on each side of his smile.

"You don't look like a monster." He said as I smiled towards him.

I had no clue what was going through his head just as he had no clue what was going through mine. We sat there just looking at each other for a couple of minutes.

"You can stay here tonight," He said as he got up, "just stay very quiet."

He then left and didn't come back till the morning.

That morning I woke up to the door opening. He came in with a bowl full of what I assumed to be food. He set down on a little table that was in front of me. He then sat down and smiled.

I leaned forward smelling the substance that was put before me. I grabbed a piece of it and ate it.

"It's good isn't it?" He said as he then grabbed the metal object in the bowl," here, use the fork."

I grabbed the so called fork and scooped up the food and continued to eat as he just watched smiling. Once I finished eating he started to show me what humans do for fun.

He started to play with a rope and told me what different shapes and things he could with his but stringing it along his fingers.

"This one is called star." He said as he finished up the shape and showed me.

He then gave me the rope, "here you try."

He started to string the rope around my fingers until we heard a bark. He turned his head to look out the window.

"We need to hide you." He said as he came towards me grabbing me.

It was then that I heard footsteps from outside. The door swung open and a bunch of military men were standing in the doorway with guns. It was then by instinct that I put my body in-front of the human boy to protect him.

"Don't hurt him!" He yelled as they then shot me with a taser.

Everything went black. That was the last time I saw the human boy, at least I thought it was at the time.

A/N: hi again, it's me. Sorry. I had to do that. Anyway, I'm back. I know that this chapter was short and I know I haven't posted in an extremely long time. The reason behind that is because I kind of lost all my inspiration and drive to write. Though I missed writing every single day, I never had the motivation to write. I just wanted to say thank you for reading this and I don't know how often I will be updating because I am going to college and also have work.

I also want to add that this story is loosely based off of and inspired by Star-Crossed it's an old TV show that I used to be obsessed with and I rewatched it and it inspired me. Pretty much this whole first chapter is based off the first episode but I promise it won't be like that for the rest of the book.

I also want to say that I'm hoping to post this every Sunday, cause you know #sidemensunday. I might upload more but that's the plan for now. So yeah, I guess that's everything. Hope you guys enjoyed and I'll see ya next time, bye!
