Tom was looking in the mirror for the 6th time when he realized he was nervous. For the first time in his life, he was actually nervous to go on a date. Things were never this difficult for him, specially with a girl, but he knew he had something to lose if things didn't go the right way.
Emma hadn't texted him since the last time they spoke. He was supposed to meet her in the park in half an hour, but he didn't want her to walk alone from her house. He knew there wasn't much of an option, but he still didn't want it like that.
He decided half way to the park that he would wait for her on the corner of her street. The worst thing that could happen was getting caught, but he could randomly be walking down that street, right? He was friends with Stella too, Emma's sister, so there shouldn't be a problem with it.
He knew he was lying to himself. He didn't care.
She spotted him before he saw her.
-Tom? Hi. What are you doing here?
She kept looking back to her house as she talked, and he couldn't take his eyes off her. She asked the question casually, so calmly. Even if she looked nervous. She had a red sting on her cheeks that looked innocent. The cool night looked good on her.
-Hi -he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her to him to give her a kiss on the cheek. He felt her shiver in his arms as she placed her hands on them. Now he was the one shivering.
-Hi.
-I didn't want you to walk alone -he said, realizing he hadn't answered her question. -The park is not far from here now. We can walk together.
She took his hand and started walking them towards the park. He couldn't remember another time when the girl was the first initiating anything between them. It was weird and refreshing. He thought about the first time they talked and how she removed a string of hair from his eyes, in a casual way. He liked it so much he had to restrain himself from kissing her right there, on the spot. He had a hard time remembering why he couldn't: she was Stella's sister, and she was only 16 years old.
He had never thought of age as a problem. If he was to think of dating someone older than him, 10 years older, he wouldn't even think twice about it. Of course, he knew that her being 16 and him being 20 was different, for multiple reasons. But for him, it was all the same.
-Stella went out a couple of hours ago -she said, taking him out of his own thoughts-. So your move wasn't that dangerous.
She smiled and he smiled back. He let go of her hand to put his arm around her neck, and nuzzled his face on her hair. He could smell the sweet flavor of vanilla, like always. He had learned to love that flavor like there wasn't any other on the world.
-You always smell so good, it drives me crazy.
-It's just shampoo, you know. It just happens to be a vanilla shampoo flavor.
As they got to the park, they went to their favorite spot. It was the little house right beside the swings. He grabbed her by her waist and pulled her up, until she was sitting down. She let out a Hey! that sounded almost like a complaint, except she was laughing as soon as she sat down. He got in between her legs and she hugged him by the neck, while wrapping her legs around him.
-God... do you know what do you to me? -he said to her neck-. It's not only the vanilla flavor shampoo I smell.
He couldn't help caress her skin with his nose and she let out a sigh. She was warm even in the cool night, and Tom knew he was in dangerous ground, but he couldn't stop. He touched her waist with gentle fingers, and tried to get under her blouse when he realized she was wearing a dress. Moving away just enough to look her in the eyes, he moved carefully his hands to her legs. A shiver went through her body and vibrated in his.
