Everything she had ever known, loved, and hated flashed through her mind.
Everything she had ever wanted to do, everything that she had wanted to try, everything she wanted to be, flashed by.
Everything she had thought of for the future wasnt going to happen.
She was never going to have a family of her own, never get her dream pet, never see the sea again.
This was it.
Most of all, she wanted to see her family one more time, hug them one more time. She should have done that earlier, but then she didnt know this would happen.
She didn't know she would find herself drawn to danger. All she knew was she was uncovering secrets. But then, maybe, secrets are best left in the dust.
She looked up. Everything happened in slow motion. The woman before her had the grin of the devil on her face. Her eyes showed a madness of swirling blue. A tornado of wildness that just needed to be handled. It needed calmed down before anything happened.
Yet the monster inside this girl was not calming down.
In the slight breeze of the night, the girls hair flew backwards, tangling itself with blood.
The monster inside was going to kill Alex, but inside the monster somewhere was the girls true identity.
The identity Alex missed so much, she used to play with this girl, laugh with her. Have fun with her.
That sent another tear rolling.
Alex braced herself for what was coming.
"Goodbye sister." The girl managed before the monster through a blast of energy at her.
It flew out of her hand smoothly landing on Alex's chest, burning a hole straight threw her heart.
She couldn't feel anything though, it was like fainting but worse. All her strength was sucked out of her, and she slumped towards the floor, landing on her front.
She lay there for a couple of seconds, feeling numb. A loud ringing noise screamed in her ears and her vision went.
Darkness welcomed her.
Her sister smiled and walked away. The monster was happy, it was at its full power, but it's soul was sad, it had killed her sister. Now it was finding her family.
Leaving her sister, lying dead on the floor she turned the corner and disappeared into the streets of Sonder town.
Darkness was cold. Darkness was unwelcoming. Darkness was scary.
Darkness had become her.
Just a soul among many others who had died that night. But a soul that had made the monster stronger. A soul that could have beaten the monster but didnt.
But this was it.
Her fate.
It felt like she was floating in space, she felt light and flexible. She felt so relaxed it was unnatural. But it didn't worry her. It welcomed her.
The darkness suddenly became clearer, getting lighter and lighter. Turning into shades of grey then getting lighter, stopping on light grey.
Two throne became clear in the distance, and Alex was suddenly walking towards them, no longer floating.
Her emotions came back to her. She was supposed to be dead, right? But she felt very much alive.
Confused was her first emotion in the middle realm. As she became closer, she could make out the people sitting before her.
On her left was a boy, a cold smile painted onto his face, with dark hair covering his eyes. Alex could still see them though, they were dark brown almost black. They stared at her lazily, like he had done this a thousand times before.
On her right, sat a girl. Blonde hair spilled down her waist, she too was looking at her, with baby blue eyes that warmed her up.
Alex started to feel uncomfortable, she had always hated people staring at her. Yet she was still walking towards them. She tried turning the other, but it failed. Instead she stood still glued to the spot.
The girl began to speak, "Wel-"
"Welcome!" The boy spoke over her.
The girl glared at him, they obviously didn't like each other, but the boy just smiled cheekily.
"As I was saying, Welcome!" She continued, "Do you know why your here?"
Alex tried to speak, but all she could do was croak, so she shook her head instead.
"Your here, so you can choose who to come with." The boy spoke, his voice was smooth and held mischief in it, "This will be for eternity."
"You can either come with, to heaven." The girl smiled at her.
"Or with me, to a place of fun."
"What he means is hell. Nasty old hell."
"I thought you were over name calling?" The boy asked.
The girl just rolled her eyes, then looked at Alex.
She didn't what was going. Or even what to say. Yet she knew what they were talking about.
Alex thought about her friends, did everyone come here? If so which side had they chosen?
She thought back to recent events, would she revenge upon her sister. Or forgive.
Something was guiding her instinct. She didn't know if it was the monster inside or her soul.
But her fate told her to go with something.
Alex looked up. She was sure about this.
"Hell." She whispered.
