A New Friend

Before I knew it, I had been travelling all night as it was now dusk, never stopping until I had finally reached the edge of the village to the beginning of the Enchanted Forest. It was said to be dangerous, every mythical creature was said to be dangerous, so that included me as well.

Maybe this wouldn't be so bad, I thought. I was a bit scared though as I hesitantly continued on and stepped forward into the forest. My fear seemed to radiate as I did as clouds now hovered in the skies and blew a gentle but chilly breeze.

If I was to find happiness, I needed to think about what I wanted..

I didn't want to hide anymore. I didn't want to shy away and be forced to be someone I'm not. But I was myself.. Just not entirely.

With this thought, I rose one of my palms and merely stared at it, and within seconds, it had begun to glow a luminescent white. My eyes widened; I had never used my powers before on purpose, mainly because my parents had forbidden it for obvious reasons. Nevertheless, my parents weren't here this time.

I closed my eyes, trying to concentrate as I focused on the sounds of the wind, the dancing trees, the cold. I tried to imagine something new, something different. The sun, clear skies, flowers, and the chirpings of birds.

As I opened my eyes, I couldn't believe the sight: it was just as I had imagined.

"Oh. My. God! How did you do that?!" Came the voice of a stranger, startling me as I had jumped and nearly tripped over the roots of a tree. However, before I could fall, a single branch of the same tree had stretched down, wrapping itself around my waist and catching me just in time.

The stranger was a girl. She was around the same age as me, perhaps a few years older, but with the mindset of a 12-year old it seemed.

"You were just like,-" The girl imitated my previous pose and stuck her hand out dramatically. "And then whoosh! All this!" She jumped up and down excitedly before approaching me, but once I regained my stance, I instantly backed away, still quite startled.

"Sorry, where are my manners?" She giggled and held out a hand to shake mine. "Name's Demonelle," She introduced herself. "But everyone calls me Demon."

My eyes widened greatly as the girl had then strangely done something with her eyes as one minute they were emerald green, and the next they were pitch black, around the irises and everything before returning back to normal.

"Y-Your eyes." I stuttered, refraining from shaking her hand.

She merely shrugged. "Ah, they do that from time to time. No need to worry." Demonelle assured. "What's your name?"

"Josie," Was all I said.

"You from around here?"

"No,"

"Then where you headed?"

"I don't know, I-"

"You lost?"

"No,"

"Then why ya out here?" She questioned.

"I-.. I-.." I stammered. I just couldn't seem to find the right words.

"Nevermind. Why don't you come to my place?" She suggested, now enclosing her fingers around my delicate wrist as she directed me to a small path.

"I can't. I don't-. You're a stranger."

Demonelle giggled once more as she continued to guide me along the path. "We're not strangers anymore, silly. Come on." She persisted.

I now kept my silence as I followed the girl. She seemed nice enough, and she didn't seem to be the type to do any harm.

My feet were already quite sore from the long distance I had already travelled, though luckily, Demonelle had a form of transport, something I never imagined I'd ever get the chance to do in my lifetime.

Standing beside another tree were two unicorns, both with fur as white as snow; it was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. I was a bit confused though as to why there had been two. If Demonelle had been travelling alone, she must've known I was coming.

She seemed to read my mind as she spoke. "They can sense when an individual is in distress. You've been travelling awhile, haven't you?"

I nodded as we approached both mares. They wore no saddles, but they didn't seem to mind if we rode them as they each knelt down so we could climb on. Once we were on, they stood and headed in the direction of Demonelle's home.
