"Dude, you literally had ONE job."
"Kook, don't forget the present," his sister worriedly reminded him over the phone as said male clutched the steering wheel in annoyance.
"I got it, I got it," he casually replied with a roll of his eyes, "You've told me at least twenty times, Chaeng. Don't you trust me?"
"No," the male's sister replied bluntly without a moment's hesitance, "No offense Kook, but you kinda suck at remembering things."
"My own sister!" Jungkook playfully cries, feigning hurt at Chaeyoung's direct betrayal.
"But seriously, don't you dare forget. Jisoo-unnie has-"
"-Always been there for me, she's been my best friend for years, blah blah blah," the male interrupts the other, pitching up his voice in an imitation of his panicked sister. "At this point, I can recite your whole backstory by how many times you've told me already."
"Yah! Sorry that I have to remind you so many times because one, you have the memory capacity of an old man, and two, you just suck in general."
"I'm a great brother," he mutters with a pout at Chaeyoung's words. "Jokes on you, I already loaded everything into my car yesterday just so I wouldn't forget. Hah, take that!" Jungkook emphasizes his victory with a sharp point to his phone despite his sister not being able to see it through the call.
"Wow Kook, I applaud you," the female sarcastically congratulated as she let out a sigh. "Sorry, I'm just sad that I can't attend unnie's birthday even after everything we've been through together. This is the first time I've missed anything special of her's and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth."
Even without physically seeing her, Jungkook knew that his sister was heartbroken over the miss of her best friend's party.
"Aw, it's okay," he awkwardly tried to comfort the female, "that's why I'm here to heroically deliver your birthday wishes and save the day."
"Thanks a lot," she muttered with a noticeable lift to her voice. "I hope it's not too awkward for you since you don't know her too well. Haven't you just met her a few times?"
"I'll be fine," Jungkook scoffed at his sister's concern, "I'm great at socializing so it shouldn't be a problem."
"Pfft," he could hear Chaeyoung suppressing a laugh,"are we even talking about the same person?"
"Shut up! I've changed throughout the years and I'll have you know, people love talking to me."
"Kook, last week you literally said 'you too' to a waiter telling you to enjoy your meal and spent the next twenty minutes hiding in the bathroom."
"That never happened," Jungkook groaned as he fought to suppress his memories, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Sure," his sister responded with a laugh. "Just please wish unnie a happy birthday and try enjoying yourself with your amazing social skills."
Jungkook wished he didn't have a sister.
"Tchh, just shut up and enjoy your trip already."
"I will, thank you," his sister bubbly remarked with a laugh. "I can finally relax knowing that you didn't forget anything."
"Proves you right that I can be trusted, hah!"
Jungkook puffed out his chest in pride at his simple accomplishment, deliberately taking his hands off the wheel for a second to crack his knuckles valiantly.
He is a great brother, case in point.
