Vanessa was diagnosed with cancer three weeks before her sixth birthday.Doctors didn't think that Vanessa would survive and even began telling Vanessa's parents to prepare their goodbyes. Eleven years later though, Vanessa was still continuing her fight.
Vanessa had lung cancer. The typical survival rate is five years but Vanessa had passed that mark by six years. She was grateful for every extra minute she had on earth.
Her parents, Matt and Lydia, had begun to worry about Vanessa when she was five. Vanessa had started feeling weak, tired and always short of breath. She had a loss of appetite and complained of a pain in her chest, but her parents finally decided to take her to the doctor after Vanessa developed a cough that didn't go away and started to cough up blood.
Vanessa didn't like the doctor. He was a very serious, middle aged man called Dr. Johnson, but Vanessa loved her nurse, August.
She was a kind woman who always made Vanessa feel happy, even during chemotherapy.
