Caden was one year older than Vanessa. He had sandy blonde hair and brown eyes, similar to Vanessa.
Caden went to the little cafe one afternoon to order a milkshake. On his way out, he bumped into two girls around his age on the way in. He noticed that one of them was wearing a nose breathing tube and dragging around an oxygen tank. He recognized the other girl, August, from his old school and offered to carry the tank to their table.
From that day on Caden joined August and Vanessa monthly at the cafe. He became good friends with them and soon became close with Vanessa.
They would sometimes go see a movie in the local cinema and he would also visit Vanessa during visiting hours, even though she would always be embarrassed about it and would demand for him to leave, but she never really meant it.
Four months after the afternoon in the cafe, it was Caden's prom night.
He came up with a plan with the help of August and all the hospital staff to ask Vanessa to the dance.
