August was considered one of Vanessa's best friends, as because of her cancer, Vanessa didn't go to school.
August was in her twenties so she was pretty close to Vanessa's age. She would sometimes sneak into Vanessa's hospital room, just so they could talk. They would nearly always avoid talking about about Vanessa's sickness, which Vanessa appreciated, because she felt like a normal teenage girl chatting with her friend.
August was always there for Vanessa. During doctors appointments, chemo and all of her birthdays. She would bring random little presents some days like jewelry or a best selling book.
They would also have spa days sometimes, with face masks and manicures. What Vanessa enjoyed most though, was when August and her would go downtown to a little cafe, where they would eat burgers, ice cream and hot chocolate once a month.
Vanessa would look forward to this every month and it was their little tradition.
It was also the place where Vanessa met Caden.
