Vanessa reached her eighteenth birthday.

She had a small party in the little cafe with her parents, August and Caden.

Because of her frequent visits every month, the manager of the cafe, Annie, had made her a beautiful buttercream cake, which was shared round with the other customers.

August and Caden had made Vanessa a photo album of all their memories together and her parents had given her a delicate gold bracelet with a little charm of a tiger.

Vanessa kept up her fight for twelve years, but lost her battle three weeks after her eighteenth birthday. Her parents, August and Caden were thankful for the extra light that Vanessa had brought into their lives and for getting to know the incredible person that she was.

When they had returned to their normal lives a few months later, they all thought about the one thing that the world truly does need now.

The cure for cancer.
