The TARDIS suddenly shuddered to a stop and everyone turned to the Doctor, unsure of what to do next.
"Where are we?" John asked. Curious of where they had landed. Before, when the TARDIS had magically appeared in his living, he had been absolutely shocked. When he saw the inside, he could not believe his eyes. The place was huge and it had taken a while for John's head to wrap around it. John was worried about this strange machine but he did not question it as Sherlock did not either. When he had found out that Sherlock had travelled with the Doctor before he began to wonder when it had happened.
The Doctor smiled at everyone and looking at Dean, Sam and Cas, said, "Welcome home...ish." Dean rushed outside, obviously worried about his Impala to only find the street empty. For a second, he had a small panic attack when he realized that Bobby had taken the car back to his house. Dean relaxed slightly and turned to see if the portal thing was there. It wasn't.
"You said the portal would appear at the places where the TARDIS has landed before, right?" Sam asked, looking around himself.
"Yes, I did." The Doctor confirmed looking a Sam and realising the problem.
"Then where the hell is the portal?" Sam asked, making a face that made Clara think that he looked like a confused moose.
The Doctor looked around, he furrowed his eyebrows and looked around.
"The portal disappeared after you went through the portal. Am I correct?" Sherlock asked, the cogs in his mind beginning to spin.
Team Free Will nodded in unison and Dean said, "But why did it close after we went through? It shouldn't have closed...right?"
Everyone burst into a long conversation and tried to come up with different theories and then Sherlock had, had enough. He quickly grew impatient and then yelled, "SHUT UP! I'M TRYING TO THINK!!!"
Everyone stopped their conversations abruptly and all turned to Sherlock. Dean, annoyed at him and Sam, Castiel, the Doctor, Clara and John curious of WHAT Sherlock had to share. But Sherlock did not say a word and instead tapped the temple of his head repeatedly.
Everyone waited patiently to see what Sherlock had deduced while Dean rolled his eyes.
For a few seconds or so, everyone...mostly everyone, with the exception of Dean, looked at Sherlock intently. Finally, Sherlock looked up his eyes wide with excitement. "What if the portal closed after these idiots came through because we closed it as soon as they passed!"
Castiel looked at Sherlock slightly offended. "I do not believe it is nice to call anyone an idiot. Let alone an Angel of the Lord. I have seen many things and I do not believe I am an idiot. I do not think that Sam and Dean are idiots either..." Cas trailed off.
John smiled kindly at Cas and answered him, saying, "Don't worry, he calls everyone an idiot. Don't take it personally."
Castiel nodded, not fully believing him but he let it pass.
After a moment if akward silence, the Doctor smiled. "You're right Sherlock. Nice deducing! I'm not a bad deducer either did you know that?!" The Doctor explained as they all piled into the TARDIS again. "I once deduced that a man had an apple tree with a wife with a limp by looking at just his collar stud!" The Doctor continued.
Sherlock nodded. Knowing that the Doctor probably got it wrong but he remained silent. John knew that the Doctor had probably deduced incorrectly as well and noticed Sherlock remain silent.
"Well, come on. Let's go to about..." the Doctor said and paused to look at his watch. "Let's go to about 72 hours ago and see where we should go or do from there."
So once again, everyone went into the TARDIS, and circled the console once more. The Doctor began his flurry of button pressing and lever pulling and got to work.
Castiel stood patiently by the rail and watched the Doctor intently. Curious of what he was doing.
"Hey." Dean said, walking towards Cas. Dean was going to go talk Clara, but found her in an intense conversation with Sam. So Dean had rolled his eyes and walked over to Cas.
"Hello." Cas replied. An akward silence hung between them and the only sound they could hear was the whirring of the TARDIS and the silent chatter of Sam and Clara.
After a few more seconds of this awkwardness, Clara went over to the Doctor and asked him, "Why is this taking so long?"
The Doctor just shook his head and answered, "The travel to this universe would have drained her power but now, we're trying to travel again without giving her any recharging time. It's draining her. We shouldn't even be travelling back. We're not supposed to. By doing this, we're crossing our own time line which is not very safe and the TARDIS knows this. She's trying to stop us from going back..."
Clara nodded. Understanding that time had strict rules and that the Doctor was breaking them to fix up the mess she made...well, the mess they made.
Clara sighed and for a couple of minutes, the TARDIS continued to resist going to the destination they wanted to go but finally she relinquished and TARDIS landed.
Cas and Dean had been standing akward next to each other and Dean was relieved find an excuse to move away from Cas and relieve them both from the tension that had built up.
They all walked outside and found themselves in the exact same spot as they were before...except this time, the portal was there, and so was Dean's car.
Dean's face brightened at the sight of his baby and he ran over to the Impala and stroked her. Clara laughed and when Dean looked up to find her laughing at him, he gave her a puzzled look. "You're as bad as the Doctor. The Doctor strokes his TARDIS like that as well." Clara explained, laughing. Dean rolled his eyes and walked over to the rest of the group with Clara.
"Clara come with me into the TARDIS. I need you to help me positioning the TARDIS so we can close up the portal. Sherlock, you come too and if you want to, you can bring John along." The Doctor said, suddenly putting on a professional tone. "Dean, Cas, Sam," The Doctor continued, nodding at the three of them. "Once the TARDIS is in place between the portal, attach this to her..." The Doctor trailed off as he rushed into the TARDIS and came back out with a large rope and a hook. "Attach the hook here." The Doctor said as he showed them how to attach the rope. The hook for perfectly around the door and the Doctor pulled firmly on the rope to prove that the rope was stable and attached to the TARDIS properly. "And when you see the portal slowly closing up, pull the TARDIS towards you before it completely closes up or my sexy here will be crushed in half..." the Doctor explained, patting the blue box.
"Uhhh...did you say 'your sexy'?" Sam asked.
The Doctor’s eyes widened slightly but he re-composed himself and nodded.
"Ummm...that's my nickname for her..." the Doctor said, stroking his box. Dean nodded at the Doctor, knowing that the Doctor had feelings for his TARDIS because he felt the same thing for his beautiful 1967 Chevrolet Impala.
And so, Sherlock, John, Clara and the Doctor all got into the TARDIS and Team Free was left behind to prepare for the inevitable.
