This is a narrative poem. Mostly ABAB, two stanzas are AABB
A piercing in the dark awoke,
Took the young knights heart,
The easiest job for any bloke,
But will he take it apart?
A tinkering through the midnight hours,
Brought him out of the dark,
He had no strength or any powers,
Yet he still gave the knight this remark.
"A foolish one are you!"
The knight paused and took him in,
And said, "I am addressed by who?"
The dark just went away too.
To repair what had been grabbed,
He sat and worked for years,
He prodded and poked and jabbed,
While paralyzed by his own fears.
A vexed many have wondered,
If the young knight dreamed when he slumbered.
A growl, or hiss, if you may,
Was his dark, waiting for day.
The one who took what he needed,
Played around with its value,
Acting as if it never beated.
But what he said was true.
The knight knew what awaited,
His empty vessel far departed,
The wheels turned and grated,
His life long discarded.
A flicker of hope flew down to greet him,
It had been 10 years since someone had to truly meet him.
The stars had dawned in the sky above,
Yet this knight is unable to love.
He never stopped his work,
Hope by his side,
Creating his own, he started to smirk.
He laughed, and he screamed, and he laid down and cried.
10 years, 10 years, since he let these inside.
10 years to make his own,
10 years he had tried,
10 years to make pain.
Everything Lost. Nothing Gained.
Meanings: A young man had his heart stolen, literally. Dark is symbolism for depression, Fear symbolism for sleep paralysis. The line about him dreaming is a dedication to insomnia (a life long friend of mine). Hope was a chance at love, but as he had no heart, he could not love hope back. When he finally finished making himself a new heart, he felt all the emotions that he had shut himself off from for ten years.
As you see, his outlook at the end is grim, he is a pessimist, and can only focusing on the pain his new heart brings. Do not do this to yourself! If you have to make your own heart, work with it, love every piece you crafted, it will bring you pain, but this does not mean their is no joy. As for hope, if someone is willing to help you when you are in a dark place, don't push them away, let them in, and soon you will feel that hope as well.
