Chapter One:

It had been a month since Ross proposed to me. It had probably been the most stressfully, perfect month of my life. The sidewalks of Time Square were full of people trying to get somewhere. I was trying to get back to my apartment. The cool fall air whipped around, making my long hair do crazy things. I began to get frustrated, trying to carry bags, boxes, and a manner of other things, for the wedding. It was only one half block to my apartment. One half block. As easy as that sounded it's not so easy when your phone starts ringing.

I stepped out of the flow of foot traffic to put my boxes, and bags, down and answer my phone.

"Hello," I huffed into my yellow iPhone 5c.

"Hey beautiful," Ross's voice filled my ears, and suddenly gave me a renewed hope of getting all these things back to my apartment.

"I'm so glad it's you." I smiled, and started putting small boxes in large bags and putting them all in the large box.

It was heavy, but it made it much easier to see.

"Having a rough day?" He asked.

"Absolutely the roughest day of my life!" I replied.

The sign of my apartment building came into sight, of course it was a Stonewell Apartment. My father wouldn't hear of me living anywhere else.

 "I'm sorry, my love,"

"I just can't wait to be out of this accursed city! My hatred, and love, for New York are about fifty-fifty, but my love for California is one hundred percent! I'm so glad I opted for those summer classes! It means I've got early graduation next month." I entered the elevator and tried to catch my breath just a little.

"I'm just glad you'll be home soon, but I'm coming out this weekend. I miss you." He said.

"I miss you too, but soon we won't have to say goodbye." I looked at my engagement ring just as the elevator door dinged that I was at the tenth floor.

I picked the box up again and walked till I got to apartment number 505. I balanced the box on my hip while holding my phone between my shoulder and my ear and trying to unlock my door.

"I can't wait to not have to say goodbye."

 "Me too," I said.

 I dropped my keys

"Can I call you back?" I asked.

"Sure, I love you," Ross said.

"I love you more," I replied.

"I love you most," He hung up.

I smiled as I put my phone in my back pocket. I grabbed the handle of my door and it turned and opened. I looked from my hand to the door as if thinking my hand had the magical power to unlock doors. There were noises coming from inside, so like any Nancy Drew wannabe, I stepped inside to investigate only wavering in my course to pick up my keys and lock the door again. Before I went down the hall I picked up a pan that was sitting on my kitchen counter. What? If it worked in Tangled it could work in real life, right? The door to my room was ajar, and the pit of worry in my stomach doubled in size. I couldn't handle this alone, no matter how much I wanted to. Being a strong and independent person is a whole lot harder than it looks.

"Hello, 911, please state your emergency." the operator's voice calmed my nerves a little bit.

"I think there's someone in my apartment. When I got here a few minutes ago the door was unlocked and there is some kind of noise coming from my bed room." my voice crack.

"What is your address?" the woman asked.

I rattled off my address and, was told to stay on the line. Just then the door flew open. Without thinking I swung my pan and hit the person in the stomach knocking them over.

 "Ma'am what's happening?"

"I don't know, I think I just hit someone, but I have my eyes closed." I said, holding the frying pan in front of my face for protection.

"Carter! You just hit Grant!" Camila's voice screeched.

I moved the pan from my face and saw Grant Jax laying on my floor.

"What the heck are you doing here?!" I yelled.

"This is our apartment." Camila tried to justify.

"No it's not; ma'am can you give me a minute, I need to put the phone down." I said to the woman on the other end of my phone.

"The police will be there in five minutes." Her calm voice filled my ears one more time.

"Thank you," I said, placing my phone on the table behind me.

 "Yes it is!" Camila said.

"No, it's not! You haven't been here! I'm the one paying the rent, the bills. I'm the only one taking responsibility while you're off galavanting with your boyfriend." I crossed my arms, stepped into my room and yanked my sister off my bed.

 "Husband! Camila yelled.

"And even if this was our- What?" I looked at her in shock.

"Grant is my husband," Camila said again.

It took me a minute to process this. Camila had eloped. Camila had eloped? OH MY GOSH! Camila ELOPED!

"Get out," I said, in the calmest tone I could muster.

"What?" She was shocked, but I didn't care.

"You can't sponge off me anymore. I made a life for myself, now you go make a life of your own and GET OUT!" I dragged her 'husband' up off the floor with one had and Camila with the other.

"Carter don't do this," Camila said.

"Mom would be SO disappointed in you!" That was the final blow.

I slammed the door and leaned my back against it. This whole encounter had blown me away and was now jazzercising on my last good nerve. The impact of the five minute exchange hit hard, and I slid down the door. I pulled my knees up close to my chest and tried to breathe like normal. When my breathing slowed to it's regular pace I picked up my phone and saw that the woman was still on the line.

"I take it you wont be needing the police." She stated.

"No, but thank you." I sighed.

 "Want some advice?" She asked.

 "Yes please," I said.

"I think you did the right thing. You said what needed saying and you're going to be just fine." I wanted to hug this woman.

"It doesn't feel right, but thank you." I smiled weakly, even though she couldn't see me.

"You're welcome, have a good day," she hung up.

It took me another moment to let her words sink in. I'd done the right thing. Camila needed her own life just like I needed mine. I'd created mine and made it beautiful, now it was her turn. I couldn't baby her anymore. Without thinking I dialed. I dialed like the wind, and put the phone up to my ear.

"How fast can you get a plane to New York?" I asked the person on the other end.

Hey y'all! Long time no see! I'm so glad I've been able to write more! You guys deserve this after such a long pause on writing. I really hope you guys liked this chapter if you did like it and comment about your favorite parts and things like that. Also the photo to the side is what Carter is wearing in this chapter, and if you click the external link you'll get too see how Carter's apartment furniture looks. As far as a posting schedule goes I'm not sure when I'll be able to post. I really want to put something out that has substance, something I've been lacking in recently. I don't want to post chapters half-hearted. Thanks for reading guys!
