A week later

Tonight is a big night. Tonight is Sam and Alex's first date. And tonight is also the first time Kara and Lena will see each other since the big revelation. So, definitely not the night to mess up. And yet, one of them will.

Alex and Sam planned the night perfectly so that everything would go well. They would all meet at the alien bar, spend some time playing pool and drinking and then, when the atmosphere would be defused, Alex and Sam would go off on their date.

Alex and Kara arrived first at the bar. Which is surprising because Kara was really not ready to see Lena again, she tried to escape her sister's grip a few times. But Alex is the director of the DEO, she can handle an alien.

"This bar is not Lena's style. We shouldn't have gone here, she's going to be uncomfortable."

"For the last time Kara, she chose the bar."

"I find that hard to believe", Kara responded while ordering some alien alcohol at the bar.

"Wow Danvers, what do you think you're doing", said Alex while cancelling the drink.

"I can't go through this sober."

"Kara, you've gone through your entire life sober. You've been drunk like twice. Your best friend will not be the reason you drink."

"You're right. I'm just nervous."

"Don't be, Lena asked to see you, this is a good sign."

"You're right. I really miss her."

"I know you do", said Alex while spotting Lena and Sam entering the room. She waved at them. "Kara, be cool."

"You be cool, you're the one on a date tonight."

"I told you our double date would just be Sam and I watching over you."

Lena and Sam reached their table and sat down. They ordered drinks and Sam and Alex made an effort to start conversations for the first 15 minutes. After that, when the alcohol started to have effects, it was much easier. The four of them played pool, laughed and talked like the 4 old friends they were. After a couple of hours, Alex nodded discreetly at Sam:

"Right, well, Alex and I are going to take off. It's time for you to talk."

Alex and Sam took their stuff, said goodbye, secretly wished them good luck and headed out. They decided to go to the waterfront to see if they could get an ice cream. A few minutes after they left, while they were walking side by side, Alex asked:

"Do you think they're gonna be okay?"

"I hope so. Lena was ready to take a step forward."

"Kara tried to bail. Several times."

"Lena too."

The two of them smiled before Alex looked at her watch and said:

"It's already past 11pm. So much for our first date."

"The night is still young."

"Honestly, I don't think I could stay awake after midnight", joked Alex.

Sam chuckled before saying: "Me neither."

After Sam and Alex left, neither Kara nor Lena said a word. There was so much Kara wanted to say but she though it was better if Lena started. After a few minutes, she did:

"I've been thinking a lot lately. Obviously. And to be honest, I really thought I was ready to see you and hear you and maybe move on. But, now that I'm here and you're sitting across me, it just doesn't seem that easy. I guess now I understand how you felt when I hide kryptonite from you."

"Lena, I understand. Let me just say that I'm sorry. I'm sorry I hurt you, because it was the last thing I wanted to do. I just wanted to protect you. The more people know my name, the more they can hurt me by hurting the people I care about."

"But I'm not just people, I would never have said anything."

"I know, of course you wouldn't. But I didn't want you to get hurt because of what you knew, because of me. Again."

"I understand that. But Kara, I don't care. I want to be a part of your life, yours and Supergirl's. I don't care if I get in danger, I want to be all in", said Lena, thinking this could actually all work out .

At this moment, Kara was not sure if Lena was talking about their friendship or something more. To be fair, Lena was not sure either.

"I'm sorry I hurt you Lena, but you have to know, I'm not sorry for not telling you."

"What?"

"I told you, I was trying to protect you and if I had to do it all over again, I would. I don't care if you hate me, your safety is more important to me."

"So, you were really never going to tell me?"

"No."

"You know what? There is no point. There is no point in this relationship."

"Lena, what are you talking about?"

"Kara, you were never going to tell me that you are Supergirl. You were never going to let me be a part of all your life."

"Lena, that's not-"

"No, no, I'm not done. I'm such an idiot. I trusted you with so much. I told you things I've never told anyone before. I opened up and you knew how hard that was for me. I've been betrayed by everyone close in my life. My mother, Lex, Rhea. And you knew that, you knew how hard it was for me to trust you. And now you're telling me that you didn't trust me back?"

"Lena, this is not what this is about. I told you it was to protect you."

"Was it really? Because you should know by now I don't need protection. And even if I did, the fact that you didn't know I would rather know all of you than be safe says a lot about our relationship."

Lena got up and took her coat.

"Lena please-"

"No, we're done Kara. I'm done."
