Seungwan felt her vision fading for a moment as she took her first slow step into the ballroom, the bright lights shocking her eyes that had already gotten used to the darkness of the night streets. She straightened her back so as to show off her overflowing confidence and replaced the serious look on her face with a smirk. It was going to be a fun night. Or so she hoped.
Making sure her suit was clean and looked as neat as it could beforehand, Seungwan strutted into the midst of the ball attendants. As she walked, the whispers of many of them caught the woman's attention.
"Have you heard?" a slim woman whispered to another. "Supposedly, there's a mysterious woman who attends parties like this one and enchants men and women alike with a single look, and is then able to get them to do whatever she wishes."
"Oh, I've heard about that! The rumour doesn't end there, it's said that, after the woman gets what she desires, the person she enchanted forgets all about her..."
"She sounds very dangerous..."
Seungwan rolled her eyes and kept walking, the confidence never leaving her gait. She was looking for something or someone that would catch her attention and, as she neared the other side of the room, in the corner of her eye she saw a woman wearing a large pink dress. Perhaps that would be Seungwan's interest of the night.
As the said woman had sat down at one of the tables, Seungwan swiftly got close to her with a twirl, not making not a single sound during her approach.
"Excuse me, may I sit here?" Seungwan asked, pointing to the chair in front of the woman's.
The woman looked up at Seungwan and the two locked eyes. They stayed that way for a few seconds, perhaps examining each other, or maybe simply waiting for one to make a move, until Seungwan smiled and slightly tilted her head to the side. The woman flashed a smile back and turned to the table once again.
"Of course," she replied.
As Seungwan sat down, she could feel the other woman's stare. She turned to her and noticed the other had been furrowing her eyebrows, but she stopped as soon as she noticed Seungwan staring at her.
"So, may I know the name of a beautiful woman such as yourself?" Seungwan asked, crossing her legs.
"Oh, please, there's no need for formalities and flattery," the woman replied, clearly bothered by something ever since she had looked into Seungwan's eyes. "But my name is Bae Joohyun."
"Son Seungwan. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"The pleasure is mine."
With a slight smile, the two women turned to their drinks, as, truthfully, they had nothing much to say to each other. Seungwan had hoped that night would be just like any other, but after looking into Joohyun's eyes, she wasn't so sure anymore.
She needed a new course of action.
"Your eyes are very beautiful," Seungwan blurted out, taking a sip of her drink afterwards as she noticed Joohyun flinch. She turned to the woman, who was gritting her teeth in an attempt at a smile. "Is something the matter?"
"I, no, I mean," Joohyun stumbled over her words. "Thank you. Whether it surprises you or not, that's a compliment I rarely get from people."
"Oh, it doesn't suprise me." Seungwan smirked. She wondered if she should have chosen her words more carefully, but it didn't matter much in the end. She was certain the results would be the same, regardless of which path she took.
'The results...' she thought to herself.
Truth be told, Seungwan was slowly becoming tired of the life she lead. She'd work on most days, and then when she got those free days that were supposed to be satisfying and relaxing, all she did was go to luxurious parties populated with people she couldn't stand being around. Everything about them annoyed her: from the way they dressed, to the way they talked. She couldn't stand it.
