I know this is kind of embarrassing. What I'm about to do is so damn shameful on my part. This isn't so me. Not really. But I decided to do it. No more what ifs. No more buts. This is not only me, but for my best friend for life, Nikki. I know she'll be disappointed in me once she knew, but I swear to God, I'm doing this for her and for her baby. I don't want her to feel like she's all alone now, like everything is going upside down.
I entered the building and walk through the elevator. Upon reaching the 11th floor, where the firm is, my heart races so fast. No backing out. Please guide me, oh Lord. I saw the signage, Roger's Solutions. "Zachary Rogers." I mumbled. Getting closer to the glass door, I stood still. Just standing there without making a pace, until a mid-thirties lady come outside and noticed me.
"Yes ma'am? What can I do for you?" She asked with a sincere concern in her eyes. "Are you looking for someone?" She added when I didn't answer her.
I gulped down my saliva slowly. 😒 I looked at her instantly and I accidentally let out a loud heavy sigh. 😔
She seems so shocked, and asked me again. "Are you okay, ma'am?" 😳
"Uhmm. Yeah?" I answered in a questioning way. "I-I mean, yeah. I-I'm looking for Z-Zach.? Is h-he there?" I said stuttering. My God! Ellaine. Focus yourself. Keep calm. Inhale. Exhale. I said to myself.
"You seems so tensed, Ma'am. C'mon inside. I'll accompany you to his office." She said and let me in. She looked at me and smiled, "Perfect timing." She mumbled.
"Huh?" I was confused on what she'd said but I didn't dare to ask questions. I didn't know what she's talking about or Imma say, what she's thinking about me right now. Until she smiled so sweetly. I arched my brow for that gesture. Sorry for being a little sassy but I can't help raising my brows. Sassy since birth, I say. Basic. 😅
She let me go in first to the hall. I looked around. Why there's no employees here? Isn't it working hours? I asked myself.
"Well, Mr. Rogers suspended the work for today because we have an event later at night. That's why I said it's perfect timing." She glanced at me and continued her pace passing me. "I'm guessing Mr. Rogers didn't expect you today, 'coz if he is, he'll tell me sooner. You're no client, nor family member, but if you want it to be private, then I'll let you." She said seriously while we're walking down the hall. And behind the glass door, we can see the back of a man talking with his phone on his ears. "I'll be out soon, so I'll leave you here." She took a look at me and knocked the door.
The man inside the room turns around. "Come in, Lolit." He said with a calm voice and continue talking on the other line. "I'll call you again later, sweetheart. Okay? Send kisses here." He said sweetly over the phone and smile. A perfect smile. "I love you, too! Bye!" Then he hang up. Took his seat, and looked at Lolit. "So, why are you still here, Lolit? I'm afraid you'll be late for the event tonight." He said and started sorting out his stuffs on the table.
"Oh, there's no rush. I'll be leaving anyway. I just let her in. Well, I saw her a while ago at the lobby. Seems like she's looking for you." She turned to me until she realized she haven't had my name yet. "Oh, I'm sorry, Miss. I haven't had your name. What's your n-" she'd been cut by Mr. Rogers.
"Ellaine." He threw his hand on the other side of the table, motioning me take a seat and said, "Please."
Lolit just smiled at me. "So, it's Ellaine, then. Good. That's a pretty nice name, dear. You two seems to know each other very well, so I better go now." She opened the glass door, and before she finally close it, she popped her head and said. "Be safe!" And winked at Zach.
