Mackenzie closes her front door behind her before slipping both her arms into her backpack straps and taking a bite out of the juicy apple that she holds in her right hand. She didn't have time for breakfast of course, between taking too long in the shower and changing her outfit at least four times, she didn't stand a chance. Luckily though, Melissa was prepared for that to happen and she placed the piece of fruit in her daughters grasp before she left.

The fall air is crisp but not too chilly as the now, junior, struts down her own driveway and makes her way up the Orlando's very long one.

Like always, Mackenzie doesn't bother ringing the doorbell or knocking, instead, she simply opens the front door and lets herself in. She can smell all sorts of breakfast foods being made all the way from the kitchen. She hums in delight, imaging herself wolfing down one of Dales infamous chocolate chip and peanut butter waffles.

"Hey sweetie, ready for school?" Mer asks, making her way downstairs.

Mackenzie looks up, smiling when she sees her second mother. It's been too long since the last time they hugged. Approximately 24 hours ago.

"So ready, where are laur and john?" Mackenzie questions, allowing herself to be squeezed by Meredith.

Pulling away from their short but sweet hug, Meredith rolls her eyes referring to Mackenzie's question of her children's whereabouts.

"Upstairs. It took me forever to get John out of bed and Lauren? Well, you know miss diva and her 'I don't have any clothes' routine she does every single morning" Mer sighs, stepping away from a laughing Mackenzie.

"Come grab a waffle before you leave" The woman calls from the living room.

Mackenzie smiles, knowing fine well that she most definitely will make sure to grab a waffle before heading out.

She climbs upstairs within seconds and makes her way down the upstairs hallway. She passes by Maddie and Darian's old rooms. They don't use them anymore because Maddie has her own place and Darian is still in college so it's just Lauren and Johnny. And Mackenzie.

"Johnny! Give me back my hairspray!" A stressed out Lauren shrieks from her bedroom that is directly across the hall from her older brothers.

Mackenzie chuckles, rounding the corner and stepping inside the pretty pink bedroom that belongs to her best friend.

"Oh my god, thank god you're here" Lauren says, pulling Mackenzie in for a hug almost immediately. Surprised but glad to be back with her bestie, Mackenzie hugs back, squeezing a little.

"You okay?" She questions, genuine concern seeping through her voice.

Lauren shakes her head, her green eyes tearing up. She falls onto the bed, holding her head in her hands.

"What's wrong? You're scaring me now" Mackenzie tells her, crouching down to the blonde girls height.

"He broke up with me" she cries. Those words shock Mackenzie.

Lauren and her boyfriend Noah have been seeing each other for almost 3 years. They were undeniably adorable and although she'd never admit it, their relationship made Mackenzie slightly jealous. But only because she wished that she had a relationship like that...with someone...else.
