Chapter 8

Everything was black. Emmaline would hear the sound of unison feet marching. She couldn't move but she knew she was strapped to a table and was moving. She gathered the strength to open her eyes. The new found brightness of the lights meet her eyes causing her to blink multiple times to clear her vision. The hallways she was being moved through were a dark color with bright lights running through the middle of the ceiling. She looked down at her hands instinctively pulling on the restraints. No use. She looked around her, eyes widening when her eyes land on the table next to her. "Bucky??" She whispered. He had cuts on his face and arms, eyes still closed. "Buck, wake up!" she said a little louder this time. The Hydra soldier pushing her table harshly said something in German above her. Emmaline took it as a silence and didn't say another word until she and Bucky were pushed into a room with scientists in white lab coats. "Ah! Vinally, Ze test subjects have arrived." said a scientist with a thick German accent. The scientist gathered around Emmaline and Bucky. "Vake him up." the same scientist demanded. Another scientist inserted a needle into Buck's arm injecting him with something. He jolted awake and gasped for air. "Good." Bucky's eyes widened with horror as he looked around at all of the scientists. The first scientist called to the others and they gathered around a table with an assortment of tools. Bucky continued to stare at the group speaking German a few feet away from them. "Bucky." his head snapped toward Emmaline, his eyes widening more. " Emmaline! Are you okay? Did they hurt you? I swear to god if they even touched you-" Emmaline interrupted him with a comforting smile playing on her features. "I'm fine, Buck." The scientist every so often would glance over at the two. "Do you have any idea what they want with us?" Buck asked leaning his head back down on the table calming slightly. "No idea." The scientist made came back to the two and did what they assumed to be health checks.

After what felt like several hours of being poked and prodded, they moved the two childhood friends into a darker room where two machines stood. The huge metallic machines had seats attached to each one and a computer attached to the left of each one. Two scientists unlocked Emmaline and Bucky's restraints allowing them to stand. The main scientist, who Emmaline could clearly see now that she was standing, was tall and lanky with silvering sandy blond hair. He stood in front of the two with an evil smirk on his face.

"Now each of vou take a seat." he said jestering to the machines. Bucky and Emmaline look at each other, neither one of them wanting to move. A guard shoved Emmaline in the back with the barrel of his gun pushing her forward. "Hey! Don't touch her!" Bucky yelled throwing a punch at the guard making the guard stumble back. Another guard punches Bucky in the stomach and holds his arms behind his back. Emmaline quickly stood and tried to advance on the guard holding Bucky but the scientist was too quick grabbing her by her hair, pulling her back and pinning her arms behind her back just like the guard did to Bucky. "If vou vant to keep her and vourself safe zen I vould comply. Zat applies to both of vou." he said as the room fell dead silent. "Alright." Bucky gave in. "Good. Now sit." Bucky and Emmaline were released and took their seats in the machines. The scientist walked to the other scientists and smirked, "Begin operation Vinter."
