It was the 3rd of March, Springtime. But even though just outside our property was growing. The kilometre round circle surrounding our house remains dead and desolate. No wonder, after all the blood shed here last year. The wind was freezing and I watched how it danced among the pages of my homework books, making the pages tube like waves. I could imagine the surfer coming through. Just as he came out of one I heard a crash, then a loud sob. I rushed downstairs to see what had happened.

Mom had seen the doll on the news again. It upset her and Dad so much to see that Taylah's doll kept popping up, apparently murdering some victim, always a 16-year-old girl. The cops had never believed it, but we know that it was a murderer, that it had killed Taylah. The house used to be happy and fun, the grass green and lush. Now it was dead, just like Taylah. It's like she's haunting us; the lights flicker, things fall, Mom and Dad find letters saying 'Go away!' and try to hide them.

Everyone was worried now, the doll seemed to be circling us, taking everybody near us. Mom and Dad always tell me to have pepper spray, even though we know it's no use. The doll would be here soon, we all knew it. That's why I'm homeschooled, that's why we always go out together. I've had enough of the fear through so I'm going out this weekend without them.

It was 8:00, time to go. I heard the car beeping me as I gave out rushed goodbyes. I would only be gone for 3 hours, to the shops with my friend in the car to meet up with the others who got us tickets to Pitch Perfect 2. As soon as we got inside the cinema the movie started. All too soon it was time to head back. When I got there all was quiet and still, I assumed Mom and Dad were asleep and I headed upstairs to sleep myself.

As I woke, it felt like I had only a short sleep but I slept for over 12 hours. I got downstairs and made breakfast, no sign of my parents whatsoever. After breakfast I was getting really worried, so I checked everywhere except my room and our bathroom. By then it was lunchtime so I had some lunch before searching the last two rooms. After washing my dishes I got up and checked my room. They weren't there. So I tentatively walked up to the bathroom and slowly opened the door. I looked inside and immediately wished I hadn't. My parents were lying in the bathtub, blood all over them from cuts on their wrists and throats. But worst of all was the writing on the wall that read 'I can't wait to kill you! It will be so much fun!' After I finished reading it I heard a laugh and the lights went out.

Slowly I inched my way through the corridor to my room and peered through my doorway. Sitting on my bed was the doll, covered in blood and laughing. I tried to run but it was like I was paralysed. Suddenly the doll had a knife and she started coming at me. 'At least I'll be with my family.' I thought as the knife rose up to strike. I felt a sharp pain and heard a thud as I hit the floor. I stared up at the doll as she smiled down at me, about to strike the killing blow. I watched as the knife came down, then everything went black.

We are all dead now but no one will forget the haunting of Cherry Lane.
