Yoongi really liked Jimin for multiple reasons.
Number one was that Jimin was like a breath of fresh air. He was bubbly, outgoing, yet still shy, very childish in a sense, which was ironic because Yoongi was only two years older than him, but he was always told he mature for his age. He liked spending time with Jimin because he made him feel like he was a kid, that he was still a boy.
Second, he never pressured him into anything. If they hung out, Jimin's first words were usually, 'what would you liked to do, Hyung?'. Yoongi liked that about him. Jimin wanted to do things with him that he liked doing, not the other way around. Of course, they did things that Jimin wanted to do, like sit on the pier and watch the boats or go for walks, or the time Jimin convinced him to sit still so he could attempt to draw him. It didn't look very good, but it wasn't terrible either. But most of the time, Jimin was quiet content to do what Yoongi wanted to do, and he appreciated it.
But the most important thing of all was that Jimin didn't make him talk. He didn't care that Yoongi said nothing most of the time, or that when he did talk it was normally one word sentences. When they first started hanging out, the younger would ask him questions that usually would result in long answers. Jimin was always patient with him, while he struggled to get the words out, never interrupting him.By the end of the summer however, Yoongi noticed that Jimin's questions had drastically changed to yes or no, or this or that questions. He hadn't realized at the time that Jimin had started structuring his questions to fit Yoongi's needs. And it confused him when he did figure it out. So he asked him.
"J-Jimin," Yoongi began, interrupting the boy's story. The younger immediately stopped to look at him. Yoongi could help but laugh as the wind blew his hair directly into his face.
"Yes Hyung?" Jimin replied, attempting to brush his hair out of his face.
"W-Why did you ch-ch-cha-ange your questions?"
"What do you mean?"
"You ch-changed th-them,"
"No I didn't," Jimin was confused. He didn't change his questions. He asked them normally, like he always had. Where was Yoongi going with this.
"Th-They're sh-sh-short-t-ter," Yoongi said. "Why?"
"Oh..." Jimin understood now.
"T-They used t-t-to be loh-loh-longer b-but y-you – y-you," Yoongi squeezed his eyes shut, trying to make the words come out more smoothly than they were right now. He took a deep breath, and started again. "You ch-changed h-h-how you ah-ah-ask m-me –h-h-how," Yoongi took another deep breath. Why was this so hard for him to say? He hated his stutter.
Jimin could notably make out how frustrated Yoongi was getting. It happened once or twice before, and Jimin didn't like it. It made Yoongi upset, and in return, made him upset. Yoongi opened his mouth to try again.
"Y-You," Yoongi was suddenly caught off guard when Jimin abruptly reached out and grabbed his arm. He glanced down at where Jimin's hand was. It was the first, and only time Jimin ever interrupted Yoongi.
"Take your time," Jimin said. "And I changed the way I ask my questions because I know how frustrated you get when you try and explain your answers. You seem to like the one word responses better," he explained softly. "But I can go back if you'd like. It's not that I don't think you're capable of answering my questions, I just know you have a hard time telling me,"
Yoongi seemed a bit taken back by Jimin's response. Most of the kid sat school, and even his teachers tended to ask Yoongi difficult questions in school, disregarding his stutter, and then become frustrated with him when he took forever to respond. Jimin didn't. Jimin catered to his needs unbeknownst to him.
Yoongi couldn't help the smile that spread across his face.
"Th-Thanks, Jimin,"
"You're welcome."
