Chapter 31: The Promise

It's been days since Chaeng was gone. It's been days since the last time Jihyo heard her sister's voice over the phone. Jihyo and her friends are trying to reach out and find where could the cub be but nothing yet.

'Good evening, Mrs. Yoo and Mrs. Son' Jackson greeted to the older ladies. When there's Jihyo who just bowed to the two.

'You look tired, Jihyo-ah. Perhaps, it's about Chaeng?' The gentle lady, Mrs. Yoo, asked which was the only thing that made Jihyo look at her.

'Have you slept? You're look skinnier, Park Jihyo' The old lady, Chaeng's grandmother, then commented.

But both got no response from the tired looking girl.

'Jihyo-ah, I have a favor to ask you... it could also save your sister' The gentle lady said.

Jihyo's eyes suddenly turned with interests in them.

'I'm not against you and my daughter Jeongyeon. You're a great person, Jihyo and my daughter is so lucky to have you-'

'Just get to the point, woman' The old lady grumpily said that made the gentle lady glare at her which is pretty rare for Mrs. Yoo.

'I want you to leave Jeongyeon... in exchange, we'll save your sister'

Jihyo's eyebrows furrowed,

'I talked to the Son's, this old lady's son' she looked at the old lady who's fanning herself elegantly.

'Don't make me seeem like I'm 80 years old' the oldy lady commented and coldly averted her eyes.

'I tried offering the Son's a ransom money—'

'Knowing my son... he'd take it' The old lady interrupted.

'Excuse me, Mrs. Son. Could you let me talk?' Mrs. Yoo said.

'Gladly' and they both averted their eyes form each other.

While there's Jihyo, just watching and listening their bickering.

'They'll accept my offer and your sister will be saved' Mrs. Yoo said.

'But you want me to leave your daughter' Jihyo stated.

Mrs. yoo looked at her wiith worries in her eyes. Her too, she doesn't want to do this but this si the onky way to make everything be the way it's supposed to be, peace in everyone.

'My husband thinks Jeongyeon can't focus on her role as an heir if she's in a relationship with you. He think you will bring her fown because—'

'Because I'm poor. Mr. Yoo thinks I'm after your family's money' Jihyo assumed.

Mrs. Yoo was taken aback and reluctantly nodded.

'How would I know you'll keep your promise into saving my little sister?' Jihyo asked.

'Well, that's why Mrs. Son is here. If you accept my offer, Mr. Son's men will pick you guys up to claim Chaeyoung. Mr. Son promised to leave Chaeng and her family alone' Mrs. Yoo stated.

Jihyo didn't respond.

'Think about it, Jihyo. What's more important? Your relationship with Jeongyeon or your sister?' Mrs. Yoo asked which made Jihyo thought about it.

The two then decided to leave Jihyo to think about it.

'Ready to leave?' Jackson asked.

Jihyo just looked at him and nodded. Jackson guided her to the car. Opening the door for Jihyo before going to the drivers seat.

'Hey, where you off to?' Jeongyeon who's eating breakfast asked the girl who came out of the room all dressed up.

'Picking up, Chaeng' The girl answered.

'What?' Jeongyeon asked but got ignored.

'Girls. Chaeng will be home today can you prepare something?' Jihyo called out to the girls who're in their rooms.

The two ran out of the room with big smiled on their faces.

'Jinja?!'

'Yes, I'll explain later so I trust you two to prepare something, okay?' Jihyo ruffled their hair and made the two giggled.

Jihyo was about to leave leaving Jeongyeon uneasy.

Jeongyeon stood up, 'I'm coming—'

'No. Jackson and Chaeng's grandmother will be with me. I'll be fine' Jihyo quickly put in her shoes.

'I'll see you guys later'

Then she's gone.

'You ready?' Jackson asked Jihyo.

The girl nervously put up a smile and got into the van.

Jihyo is growing bored but excited. Bored because the car ride is taking so long and excited because she will see her youngest sister again.

She kept fidgeting and Jacson noticed it. The guy didn't hesiatate to intertwine his finger with Jihyo's. For some reason, it made Jihyo feel a little bit comfortable.

After an hour and a half, they've arrived. Jihyo was expecting an abandoned building but they areived in big, elegant cabin

'So this is where he's hiding my granddaughter' Mrs. Son uttered.

'It's my husband's cabin. He brings our son here to hunt and fish' The d lady explained.

They got off,

'Unnie!!!!!' A running cub welcomed them.

'Chaeng! Oh my god' Jihyo caught the girl who jumped to her into a hug.

'Where's my money, mother' The man asked.

'Tsh! Still greedy as ever' The old lady scoffed.

'Here's your goddamn money' Jackson threw two bags of money in front of the man. His men then gathered around to check the bag, and hell, it was illed with money.

'You can take my stupid daughter' The man said not paying attentiong to his visitors.

Cheang felt a pang in her heart knwoing her dad never cared for her nor loved her.

'Oh, my Chaeyoung. I missed you' Jihyo hugged her sister into tight hug when she noticed a bruise in Chaeyoung's arm.

'Excuse me?! What's this?' Jihyo asked the man who's busy with his money.

'She was resisting so my men beat her up. I kinda did too' and that made Jihyo pissed.

'She's your daughter—!' She stood up to attack the man but was stopped by an arm holding a fan.

'We should go' Jackson said.

He guided them into the the van and asked Mr. Son's man who drove them to the place for a key. And they're off.

'I'm glad, you're safe now, Chaeng' Jihyo didn't let go of her sister.

'I'm glad you kept your promise, unnie' Chaeng said burrying her face onto her sister's chest.

'Of course, I always keep my promise' jihyo said caressing the cub's head.

And speaking of promises....

I have to keep that promise too.
