HYDRA HAD CONTROLLED THE WORLD FROM THE SHADOWS FOR DECADES. They had remained in power after their alleged destruction by growing their network under the noses of anyone who was a threat. If they decided someone could become an asset to their cause, they found a way to obtain and control them, by whatever means necessary.
OLIVIA BOWMAN HAD BEEN ORPHANED two days after her eleventh birthday. She had spent the day in Manhattan with her mom and older brother before her uncle flew in to visit when it happened. A lot of her memories from that day were a blur. They had been alive and in the same room one minute, and the next, Olivia was in a different room and her family was dead.
THE NEXT TWO MONTHS MADEOLIVIA wish she had died alongside her family. Although her uncle had taken her in and uprooted his whole life to stay with her, she wanted to be with her mother and brother. She returned to a somewhat normal routine two weeks after their deaths, going to school each morning and eating dinner with her uncle every night.
ON THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL THAT YEAR, Olivia went missing. No one knew where she went, but sometime between leaving school and when she was supposed to get home, she vanished. Her classmates had seen her walk off campus, but after that moment, no one saw her again.
THAT IS, NO ONE SAW HER UNTIL 2015, when the Avengers raided a HYDRA base in Sokovia. Tony Stark had found her in a cell, nearly unrecognizable from the girl she had once been. He brought her home, but the girl wasn't the same. There was something different. Whatever HYDRA had done had broken her and reshaped her into their perfect weapon.
