It was nearly 6.00pm when Chloe dropped me off at my apartment. After a long hot shower I throw on some comfortable clothes. I make my way into the living room and flop down on the sofa. I haven't heard from Clay since we got back from the beach. I'm almost afraid that he has changed his mind and isn't going to come over to talk.

After nearly an hour of sieving through work emails my phone buzzes with a text. I grab it off the table and glance at the screen. My heart flutters lightly in my chest when I see Clay's name on the screen. I quickly open the message and read it.

Clay: Hey Lucy, I'm going to leave my apartment now, that's if you're still okay for me to come over?

I breathe out a sigh of relief as I quickly type back a reply, with my now shaking fingers. I'm excited, anxious and nervous all at the same time.

Lucy: Yes Clay, come on over.

I don't even have a chance to put the phone down when it beeps again.

Clay: See you soon.

My heart starts pumping wildly in my chest as I slowly pace up and down my living room floor, nearly wearing a hole in the carpet.

(Okay, I really need to calm down. Clay is just coming over to talk, that's all. It should be like every other time that he has been here, but it's not, this time is very different, this time our feelings are going to be out in the open, and I'm not quite sure of what to do with that.)

After another while of pacing up and down, my phone beeps with a text. I quickly read the text.

Clay: Hey, I'm outside, can you buzz me up?

I quickly make my way over to the intercom and press it to open the main door. I open the apartment door and nervously wait for Clay.

My heart nearly leaps out of my chest when I see him at the end of the corridor. He smiles when he sees me and a flutter of excitement tickles my tummy. He reaches my door and slowly walks inside and I close the door behind us.

"Hi Lucy." he says with a smile.

"Hi Clay. Would you like a drink or anything?"

He lightly shakes his head. "Nah, I'm okay thanks."

We walk into the living room and sit down on the sofa.

Clay is the first to start the conversation. "So, firstly I wanted to let you know that I broke up with Ashley, after you guys left."

My eyes widen in surprise, as Clay stares back at me, waiting for some kind of reaction from me after the news. "Oh, how did she take it?"

Clay shrugs his shoulders. "Well she wasn't over the moon about it all, but I'm sure that she knew things weren't really going anywhere. I mean she wouldn't have came to you that time asking for advice."

"I guess that's true."

"I'm assuming that I have ruined your chance of getting that promotion and pay rise now?"

I shake my head lightly. "Don't worry about that Clay. It's stupid anyway, I mean I have a higher success rate that the both of them put together, I shouldn't have had to prove myself with this silly assignment."

"Well then, just tell her that."

I let out an exaggerated sarcastic chuckle at Clay's words. "Yes Clay, because it's just that easy. You have met Pam, haven't you?"

"Yes, but I still think that it's worth a shot. Surely she knows how vital you are to the businesses success?"

"Maybe, I'll see what she says when I break the news to her on Monday about your match not working out."
