The next morning I wake up to Clay's alarm clock ringing on his bedside table.
Clay reaches over and turns off the alarm before turning back to face me. He gently tucks the loose strands of hair behind my ear before leaning in and kissing my forehead. "Good morning."
"Good morning indeed." I say with a smile.
"I wish I didn't have to go to work today."
"Me too but we'll be back in bed before you know it."
Clay slips out of the bed and starts to get dressed. "Anyway, I guess you'll be busy packing today won't you?" He asks.
"Yes I suppose I could make a start. I'll have to let the landlord know, even though it shouldn't be a problem. I'm paid up for the next three weeks."
"Well we can make a start anyway. Let me know if you manage to get through to Jim today?"
"Yes, I will. I'm going to head back to my apartment for a while and I'll give him a ring then. I'll try to get him to meet with me this evening. I just want this whole mess to be sorted out, sooner rather than later."
"Okay. Well I better get going. I'll leave the spare key.....or should I say your key on the kitchen table. I'll talk to you later." Clay says as he leans over the bed and presses a quick kiss to my lips before leaving the bedroom.
After a little while of relaxing in bed I finally manage to pull myself up and get dressed. I have a bit of toast before I leave Clay's apartment and make my way back to mine.
It doesn't take me long to get home. When I step inside my apartment I head straight for my laptop. I turn it on and open my client list from work. I find Jim's number and type it into my phone.
After a few minutes of mentally psyching myself up I finally press the call button.
After a few rings he answers. "Hello?"
I take a deep breath in before I answer him. "Hello Jim."
"Who is this?" He ask, clearly not recognizing my voice.
"Its Lucy Hawkins."
There's a slight pause on the other end of the line as I await for Jim's response. "Why..... Are you calling me?" He asks, a little abruptly.
"I wanted to talk to you."
"Is this because of my complaint? .... I don't think I can talk to you about that."
"No, it's not that at all. I don't blame you for that. I actually wanted to apologise.... For not treating you fairly." I say, trying to sound as sincere as I possibly can in this situation.
"Really?" He asks, his voice thick with confusion and disbelief.
"Yes, but I'd actually really like it if we could talk in person, just the two of us?"
There is a short pause before Jim finally speaks. "And you're really not mad with me?"
"No, I have been doing alot of thinking recently and I think I was a little harsh, pushing you away all the time."
(My god this is so painful even saying these words..... I can't stand this guy!)
"Okay.... I will meet you. When?"
"Tonight 8.00pm, say at Tony's bar?"
"I'll be there Lucy. Thanks for giving me another chance." He says, in a chirpy voice.
"No problem. I'll see you then."
I quickly hang up throwing my phone down on the kitchen counter.
