Clay moves his head down towards mine, and our lips finally brush together. My fingers lightly grip his hair, pulling him a little closer to me. His hands softly, but firmly press into my lower back as our bodies fuse together as one.
His tongue slowly slips into my mouth, gentle but hungry, and it's at that moment as our tongues softly swirl around one another, I suddenly understand how some people describe kissing like melting, because right now in this moment with Clay, I feel like every inch of my body is melting into his and it's like no kiss I have ever experienced before.
When we finally come apart from each other both of us are as breathless as the other. Just seeing his face as flushed as mine is reassuring. I never imagined that I could have that affect on him.
He looks down at me with so much kindness, my heart can't help but flutter in my chest. "You are so beautiful Lucy, you know that?"
I blush under his intense gaze. I'm certainly not used to these feelings that I'm having all of a sudden, this tingling sensation on my skin and the deep throbbing and pulsing through my veins.
"I should tell you that I'm not a big fan of compliments." I say, as I look back up at him.
"Oh I'm sure that you'll get used to them sooner or later, because I intend to keep giving you them, every single day." he says, with a soft smile.
I shake my head lightly. "I don't know Clay, I think that we have established just how stubborn I can be!"
"Mmm, yes, but I also think that we have established just how persistent I can be!" he says, causing us both to smile back at each other.
Clay then moves back a little and looks at his watch. "I better get going, it's getting late. I'm sure that you're tired after all that surfing today?"
I let out a small chuckle. "Clay, I barely managed to stay on the board for five seconds, I somehow doubt that that constitutes as surfing!"
"Even still, you need your rest. We have our date tomorrow, remember?"
"How could I forget?"
Clay goes to walk to the apartment door and I follow close behind him. As his hand reaches the door handle so does mine, and I firmly place it over Clay's hand. He turns to me with a puzzled look across his face. "What's wrong?" he asks.
The next words that fly from my mouth, surprise both Clay and I. "Stay the night."
Clay's face is definitely a picture right now, almost so much so that I have to supress the urge to smile at how shocked he looks.
"What?" he asks, almost in disbelief at hearing my words.
"You heard me, I said stay the night with me."
I see the look of confusion and worry wash across his face and I immediately interject. "I don't mean it like that, it's just, I wouldn't mind some company."
Clay's face instantly relaxes as he stares back at me. "Okay, I mean if you're sure, then of course I'll stay the night."
I nod back at Clay. "I'm sure."
I take Clay's hand and lead him towards my bedroom. I can't lie, I'm very nervous right now. This is the first time a guy has been in my bedroom since I moved here, and although I know that Clay knows that nothing is going to happen, it's still a really big deal for me.
We get into my room and I grab a pair of pajamas. I'm just about to go into the bathroom to change when Clay calls out to me. "Eh, Lucy?"
I turn around to face Clay. "Yes?"
