It's simple to make scented soaps and cleansers. For the strongest aroma use herbs such as rosemary, lavender, and thyme--their oils linger on the skin the longest.

Herbal soaps can soothe sore muscles and invigorate a tired mind. Lavender evokes a sense of calm and relaxation.

Use lemon-scented herbs for their refreshing fragrance and cleansing properties.

ROMAN BATHS:

People have been using herbal cleansing treatments for thousands of years. The Romans, for instance, developed recipes for inhibiting body odors.

HERBAL SOAP:

2 teaspoons dried herbs or 2 tablespoons fresh herbs

1/4 cup water

Several drops essential oil

2 cups shredded pure soap

In an enamel saucepan, combine herbs, water, and oil and bring it to boil. Simmer for 30 minutes then add the shredded soap, mixing thoroughly. Cool for 15 minutes then mix with your hands. Divide into six parts, roll into balls, and dry on wax paper for two hours.
