Herbal sweets are simple to prepare and make attractive gifts. Surprise loved ones with jars of herb-flavored honeys or baskets of candied flowers.

Candied borage and lavender blooms add both color and pizzazz to dainty cupcakes, and are also edible.

Rose-petal honey is a tasty topping for toast and a comforting addition to tea.

Flavor decadent chocolate truffles with a sprinkling of cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves.

BLOOMING SWEETIES:

To make candied herbs blossoms, beat an egg white until frothy, coat the petals in it, and sprinkle them with sugar. Dry on waxed paper for two days.

HERB-FLAVORED HONEY:

Use instead of sugar in drinks and recipes, or as a sweet spread. Use any herb singularly or combine a few. Try anise seed, cilantro [coriander], lavender, lemon verbena, thyme, marjoram, mint, or rosemary.

CANDIED FLOWERS:

Edible blossoms are a treat usually limited to the growing season. Preserve petals with sugar and they'll last up to six months.
