I squeeze my calculator in my hand while I stand behind the side of the line of lockers. The sound of gunshots fills my ears while the siren screams across the halls.

When the shots grow faint I decide to run across the hall quickly, knocking on each door. My heart races in fear.

"Please open the door!" I beg but no one on the other side dares to let me in.

I continue walking where I spot my frantic peers and Mrs Stan pushing past me.

My eyes widen when I see Heidi laying beside Lachlan on the cold hard ground, in a pool of their own blood.

Oh Heidi. No not Heidi, please, God.

The shots grow closer creating a panic.

I run toward my friends, tripping over my own to feet, falling on top of Heidi. When I see the body of one of the kids running passed me fall to the floor, with fragments of their head flying through the air, I use all my might to grab Heidi's body, throwing her over me.

Heidi's blood pours over my face and chest while her open lifeless eyes look directly at me. The last thing I see is a guy, shaggy brown hair and a gun in his hand walking in my direction.

I shut my eyes immediately while his footsteps grow closer. Heidi's body weighs mine down, making me struggle to breathe. My ears continue to hear the loud sirens and his footsteps.

My heart beats at a million miles per hour, causing an ache in my chest and a pit in my gut. I squeeze my eyes tight, preparing myself for the shots that are coming.

I think of my family and my friends. The ones at this school who could potentially be dead and the ones at home who will get that phone call when this is all over.

My name will be one of many on a long list of tragic casualties. Funny to think, all that worried me this morning was passing my Biology test.

I hold my breath when I feel his feet beside my body.

Please, Jesus. Oh, God. Oh, God. If you're out there, don't take me yet. Tears threaten to pour down my cheeks but I don't dare to make a sound.

My family. God my family. What will happen to my parents if they lose me? I'll never see them again.

Suddenly I hear a violent scream from down the hall. Then, another shot his fired, a body drops to the floor in the distance, before he takes a step forward. His footsteps become more and more faint, I then open my eyes.

There I see the back of the man and the lifeless body of a girl that I could not identify. I see her bright red blood leave her body.

My eyes widen when I get the urge to scream. I clench my jaw before shutting my eyes once again. I can't help but cry. Tears stream down my cheeks while Heidi's blood stains my body.

Just wait this out, Sarah.

If you want to survive this, you need to wait it out.
