12:40 pm

It was history class when we first heard the gunshots from next door. We all stand away from both doors and sat up against the wall while Ms Stan stands anxiously in shock.

My eyes focus on the line of atlases sitting on the teacher's desk. If there's a shooter out there, we need to shield our heads.

I run towards the teacher's desk, making Ms Stan scream "Samantha!"

I ignore her cry, taking as many atlases as I can carry before tossing them to my fellow classmates.

"Here," I say to them, "to protect your head from whatever is on that side of that door"

Kelly nods "good idea, Sam"

Suddenly the door flings open, causing my peers and I to move the thick books in front of our eyes.

When I hear Mr Reed's voice and footsteps, I look up to find another class enter ours.

"Molly Green was shot," Alexander tells Mr Reed and Ms Stan.

My eyes widen in disbelief. I revert my gaze to Kelly who sits beside me when and begins screaming "Oh my God! No! No!"

My body tenses up when I hear more fires. Only this time, thick bullets pierce through the wooden door and land in front of me.

This is it, isn't it? He's going to get in here. I look over to Kelly who weeps.

"We're going to die, aren't we?" She whispers to me, holding her atlas over her face.

Before I can answer, Alexander, screams and charges towards the glass window.

What is he doing?

Is he going to jump?

"We're on the second floor" Jameson points out, "that's like thirty feet!"

Alexander turns in his friend's direction. "I don't give a fuck how many feet it is!"

The girls behind me start screaming before Kelly and Lavia stand up and walk towards Alex.

"Kelly, stop!" I beg her.

They're going to snap their necks if they jump.

I watch as Alex takes a deep breath before leaping off the ledge.

I run quickly to the window where I see him laying on the grass. He moves around then screams something to Lavia before she jumps.

Has everyone actually lost their minds?

The gunshots grow louder.

"We need to get out of this classroom!" I yell at the others, before directing my gaze at the door.

Ms Stan nods her head just as two more kids jump from the window.

"We're going through the other door!" Mrs Stan pokes her head through the window, calling out to the students, "we'll meet you outside"

At that moment, the gunshots stop and we began running through the side door that leads to the hallway.

When I hear more shots being fired, I turn my head to find Mr Reed on the floor, laying in a pool of his bright red blood.

"No!" I scream.

I stand still, unwilling to leave when I see his lifeless eyes open. I inhale deeply before running down the hallway quickly.

We find Sarah June walking slowly with wide eyes. She watched the lifeless bodies on the floor.

Instead of calling out to her, we push past her and sprint down the hallway. We take a right turn where I hear another gunshot.

I look over to Ms Stan and cry "we have to turn back, we're running towards him!"

She ignores my cry and continues along with the other students.

I stand frozen when I hear the gunshots, watching Ms Stan fall to the floor, pieces of her head flying through the air.

I turn my body around and run across the hall in panic, tripping over my feet, my heart beats out of my chest.

When I hear footsteps behind me I turn around slowly.

That's when I see him.

He stood tall with a straight face, covered in blood that wasn't his own. He was the new kid.

And he's holding a gun.

My eyes widen in fear.

I let out a scream just as my eyes wander for a split second to Sarah June, laying under a girl, across the hall.

What the hell?

I look back up at the boy, holding my hands out just as he pulls down on the trigger.
