My name is Alexis Ramilla. I'm not supposed to be doing what I love to do, but I do it anyway. No one has caught me yet, and the ones who have seen me aren't telling anybody. The king has almost no rules for our small country. The one and only rule that he has is -- no art. He finds art in any way, shape, or form ugly and disgusting, no matter how beautiful or ugly it actually is. No one even has an artistic talent here, which is fine. Except for me. I am the only one that has ever had this particular talent. My parents and very, very close friends are the only ones that know and the only ones I trust. No one else can or needs to know about my talent. I have concealed this for long enough now. It has been 15 years since I started drawing. I am now 24. I am technically a legal adult and could move out of this terrible country anytime I want. Except for one thing. There is absolutely no way out. There are no planes to fly us out or in. We are totally surrounded by water and there is no water transport. No one knows how to swim because when we are born, we are immediately given a special medicine that shuts down all water survival instincts, so anyone would drown if they went into the water. Obviously, cars can't drive on water. That leaves about zero options to leave. How helpful.
Anyway, this will explain what my life is like on a day-to-day basis. Until one day when I get tired of all this.
This is the day.
