"ALEXIS RAMILLA! WAKE UP! YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE FOR SCHOOL!" I heard my mom yell.

"Uurrrrrnnngghhh."

"Don't you 'uurrrrrnnngghhh' me! You've already slept in 20 minutes! Now GET UP!"

I sat up quickly. Too quickly. I got that feeling where you can't see anything for a few seconds and it feels really weird. How did I sleep in 20 minutes without anyone waking me up?

"I've knocked on the door 3 times since your alarm was supposed to go off! What were you doing in there?"

Oops.

"Oh, I don't know, maybe SLEEPING BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS SATURDAY AND NO ONE TOLD ME IT WASN'T?!"

"Sorry sweetie, but you have to get ready. You don't want to be late to your favorite class do you?"

"Oh yeah! I totally forgot about that! YAY!!!"

"Hurry up! You missed the bus so I'll have to take you. You know how much work time I miss when I have to take you!"

"Yes Mom, I know. Now can you please leave so I can get ready?"

"Oh right. Sorry. I'll leave now." She finally left.

I still don't understand how I slept though my mom for 20 minutes. I'm not a heavy sleeper or anything. I did have a late night last night, but that usually doesn't bother me. Whatever. I'm up now and that's all that matters. Class starts in 30 minutes and it takes five minutes to get to my college. That means I have just under 25 minutes if I want time to get the right books out of my locker for class. Good thing I chose my clothes last night! I would be lost without my mom and her awesome life tips.

I have to eat a quick breakfast consisting of toast in the car, so I don't have to worry about that right now. My stuff is already at school in my locker, so that's done. Now I just have my hair and teeth to take care of. That shouldn't take too long, right?

"ALEXIS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING UP THERE? WE HAVE TO LEAVE NOW!"

Fudge. I guess I took too long to figure out how much time I had left. How ironic.

"I'M COMING MOM! CAN YOU GET MY BREAKFAST FOR THE CAR?" I yelled as I ran down the stairs.

"There's no time, I told you you were late," she said as I ran to the car.

"How late exactly?"

"You had about 5 minutes to get ready and leave. Wait - what did you set your alarm to?"

"Ummm, I didn't?" I half asked.

"And why not?"

"I told you! No one told me it wasn't Saturday today! It's not MY fault!"

"Well, no time to worry about that now. We have to go!"

We got in the car and Mom drove as fast as she could without getting a speeding ticket.

As we approached the school, I unbuckled my seatbelt and hopped out of the car and ran to the doors.

"THANKS MOM!" I yelled as I ran in with 2 minutes to spare.

My teacher looked at me weird when I rushed into the classroom and sat in the only seat left; in the dreaded front row. She knows I'm not usually late.

"Sorry, Ms. Waters. I slept in a little."

"That's all right, just don't do it again. Now, do you have the homework I assigned yesterday?"

"Yes, I do. It's right here." I handed her the worksheet.

She looked over the worksheet and wrote '100' on the top. Phew. I don't know why I thought she would give me a bad grade for coming in late, but I did. What is wrong with me today?

Class finished as usual. My next class was a new one that I signed up for at the beginning of the year. It's called 'Problem-Solving'. Sounds like a surprise-waiting-to-happen name. I like surprises. It also didn't sound like I would have a lot of homework in it, so that's a plus. Only one way to find out though, I guess.

As I walked in, the teacher greeted me politely.

"Hello, I'm Mr. Zabinski, but you can call me Mr. Z if you have trouble pronouncing it. What's your name?"

Hmm, Zabinski. That's not a name you hear every day. I wonder if he's not your everyday person.

"I'm Alexis Ramilla. I signed up after school started."

"Ah, Alexis! Yes, you're in this class. You can sit anywhere you like." Mr. Zabinski gestured toward the inside of the classroom.

"Thanks!"

Mr. Zabinski sounds like a really cool teacher, not one of those really old or boring ones you want to throw out the window. I think this is going to be a really cool class.
