When I said I truly believed I would never see that guy, Javis, again, it wasn't for the dramatic effect. I genuinely had faith that I'd never have to deal with his annoyingly arrogant ass after that night.
And my prayers were certainly answered. Life continued its merciless flow. After a few weeks, the memory of his faint cologne and appealing smirk faded into the back of my mind. Biology class had never been more interesting with the digestive system and all of its glory.
As I sat slumped against my seat by the window, the teacher finished off her explanation of the next project.
"Now, find a partner and begin to brainstorm how to manage this task. It will be due in two weeks sharp." Her stern voice suppressed the groans that threatened to roll over the entire class.
She sighed defeatedly at our inability to co-operate before returning to her own devices. I glanced around the room, watching people immediately team up. A small frown placed itself on my forehead.
No, Luna. No frowning.
I tried smiling instead but then realised I was probably even more unattractive smiling at nothing. So I settled with just averting my attention back to the project sheet. Well, at least the freedom is laid bare if I worked alone.
"Hi." The timid voice makes me snap at the source of sound. I raised a brow at some guy, Lachlan I believe it was, standing nervously next to my table. His eyes seemed to want to look anywhere but me. Thanks for the confidence boost, I was here beginning to believe I'm not that awful looking.
"Hello?" My questioning greeting portrayed my confusion.
Silence loomed over us before he mustered up enough guts to meet my eye. I noticed the light blue tinge that was quite refreshing, I must say.
"Can we be partners?"
Letting out a small laugh, I smiled gently at his shy figure and patted the seat next to me. Shock rides over every pale feature on his face before he sits down, returning a grateful smile.
"Well, if we're going to work on this task together, you gotta drop the whole quiet and shy thing going on. Otherwise I'd have no patience and end up doing everything myself. Got it?" My joking tone eased him a little.
He brings a hand to give me a salute. I have to say the action took my off guard, partially because of the resemblance to Mister Irritating Brother and because of how easily it was for him to become comfortable.
We barely managed to discuss the instructions before the bell rang. I almost trip over the leg of the table as I dash out the door. The end of the day could never not be reviving.
Colton gives me a hug by the school entrance, hair tickling my forehead.. I stand like an awkward tree log, just letting him do whatever he wants before he slips away to find his car in the parking lot. He's been literally smushing his Learner's Permit in our faces all day. I had shoved a grape down his throat to shut him up- in the least sexual way possible.
Jayden wanders out a little later.
"Still waiting for the brother?" I had always found it weird how she avoided saying Max's name directly, now there was even a strain on the neutral word.
"Still waiting for the brother." I echoed, smiling. She rolls her eyes as if sympathising with my pain before waving and leaving.
She gets about five steps away before I watch her flip back around. Raising a brow at her returning figure, she stops in front of me.
Lips were parted but before she could get a word in, Max's screeching voice bellowed behind me.
"The faithful sister, always such a good little girl." He ruffles my hair and I scowl in annoyance.
