When someone is partnered with you for a project, the better moral to have is indeed to share the workload. Split the tasks, share the responsibilities, yada yada. So as I walked into Biology, met with Lachlan's brightened expression- I realised I'm a horribly immoral person.
At least in the lens of my own guilt.
I make my way over to the empty seat next to him, sliding onto the chair heavily.
"Lachlan, I-"
"I've compiled a bunch of research. We've just got to stick it onto the poster and make it visually appealing." He cuts my off shyly, as if scared I'd come at him for doing such thing.
My eyes widen, smile stretching into a full blown grin.
"You are a lifesaver." I say, hoping my face showcased my approval and gratitude. He returns a shocked gaze.
"Oh. Well, thanks?"
"No! Thank you. You saved my ass from failing this entire thing." I quickly pulled out a notepad and reminded myself to buy some decorative objects from the thrift store.
Lachlan falls silent for a bit, probably stunned with pride. Then he says something that makes me raise a brow. "You're not as mean as people say you are."
After a second, I chuckle lightly. "I wouldn't blame them for saying so."
"But it's not true." His persistent prying was starting to get on my nerves.
"It doesn't matter. Rumours will be rumours." I keep my gaze away from him, checking the document he said to contain all the information. Picking up on my irritation, he takes the cue to not push the matter. "Come over tonight, we'll work on the poster at my house."
I scribbled the address on a sticky note, sticking it onto his forehead. His stumbling shock made me snort to hide my laughter.
The bell rang for lunch and I silently sent my thanks, glad to escape the stuffy room.
"When do you make visits to the gym?"
Colton's fried chicken almost falls from his mouth.
"What? Is there something wrong me wanting to be healthy?" I roll my eyes playfully, grateful that my two friends didn't notice the strain on my voice. Colly quickly recovers from his initial shock and fakes a contemplative look.
"He goes on Sundays and Wednesdays." Jayden, with no time to waste, chirps. She's been not without a dreamy smile the entire day. I had to stop myself from breaking her ribcage from poking her side every time.
"I go with a few of the guys, though. Would that be uncomfortable?"
I laughed. "If you, my dear, can work out with a few guys. I'm sure I'll survive."
So physical health was settled. "Straight after school on Wednesday." I nod, turning to Jayden who picked mindlessly at her pasta.
"Spill the tea."
Max had already told me everything from back to front, but no harm in teasing her, am I right? Colton leans in from across the table, visibly interested. I stifle a giggle.
She glances at the two of us, blushing furiously. With a few more suggestive brow raises from Colly, she caves.
I just listen, pretending I haven't heard the story for the hundredth time in the past two days.
