"Without knowing the present, how could I understand the past?"
17-year-old Charlotte De Loughrey was living the typical Cinderella life, until something made her snap... releasing a part of her she didn't even know existed until now.
She was a wit...

"You're a witch Lottie."
My jaw fell faster than a corpse in cement boots. It felt like someone had knocked the breath out of me. I could feel the blood running from my face; I was probably as pale as a corpse too. A swirl of hellfire gathered at the bottom of my stomach, threatening to climb past my heart and into my throat.
I spin around to see Annie leaning on the bench. She smiled at me; her eyes knowing. She looked almost pleased that I was glowing. The complete opposite of what should have been on her face. Emitting light is not normal.
The room was a spinning blur. My chest felt heavy, all compressed lungs and tightened air ways threatening death this instant. Quick breaths, in and out, panting in hopes that one breath would catch and inflate my deprived lungs.
I let out a squeak. "W-What!"
"You're a witch," Annie repeats. I hope she knows that saying it again doesn't make it any easier to understand, let alone believe that what she was saying was true. "And do you want to know how I know that?"
"What- No!"
"As you're glowing-"
What on earth does that say? Nothing. "And the grass is green. Annie that doesn't tell me anything. You can't just say things like that. Witches are not real."
"If you had just let me finish maybe you wouldn't be as confused."
"No Annie, I think you're the one who is confused-"
Harvey cuts in. "Charlie, calm down."
"No. Don't you dare tell me to calm down! What are you even doing in here anyway, don't you have places to be and things to do?" Now I was angry. Why couldn't they just say something sensible and try to help me through this unfortunate situation, rather than completely ignore what was going on?
"Lottie, that is no way to speak to someone."
Ugh, I swear if one more person tells me off for something I say today, I will go to that stupid ball and kill the prince myself. "Can't you see what is happening to me? I'm pouring out a painfully white light. You don't think that's strange at all? Obviously not- so you can't tell me what to feel or say. I see no light coming from you."
"Charlotte quit whining and apologise to Harvey right now."
I felt by breath catch. I looked at the floor, my voice quiet. "You sound just like her."
When Annie realised what she had said and who it had reminded me of, a flash of regret lit her face. "Oh Lotts, I'm sorry I didn't mean for it to come out that way."
She reached over to give me a hug of what I presumed to be an apology. I didn't want her sympathy if she wasn't going to treat me like a human being, so I pushed her arms off me and wrapped my own around my body. She can't treat me like some child to be coddled when she didn't have her way.
