Error's pov

Here we were, fighting once again. Me against the Star Sanses. I had almost finished destroying the copy before they arrived. But this time, something different happened. Blue asked something I have been waiting for for a long time.

"Why do you destroy?"

I started at them, hiding my shock before looking at Ink, dead in the eye sockets as I said: "Let me answer with a riddle, Star Sanses." Venom laced my voice. "Why would the puppet master's favorite child attack the puppet?" With that, I pulled the last string of code that would lead to this one's destruction and jumped into a portal.

Blue's pov

I let the riddle run through my head once again as we teleported to OuterTale, the best place to think. The venom in his voice still rang in my ears. "Why would the puppet master's favorite child attack the puppet?"? It was obvious that Error was "The Puppet?". I looked at my two friends. Who here could be the favorite child of a "Puppet Master"? Dream's mother is a tree and my mom was... dead... ever since Pappy was a baby, which only left Ink.

"Ink?" I called out. He turned towards me, snapping from his daze. "Who's your mother?" He started, shocked for a few seconds before responding "Fate, I suppose. Why?" Fate. The one being who controls our lives. A puppet master at her own right. "I figured it out!" I said. They both looked at me, curious. "The "Puppet Master" he's referring to is Fate, which would make Ink the favorite child." They nodded in realization. "But why would Error be Fate's puppet?" Dream asked.

Ink's pov

Suddenly, the truth hit me like an avalanche. "He doesn't want to destroy..." I mumbled in disbelief, head down. "Huh?" Was their response. "Fate is forcing Error to destroy! That would explain why he never destroyed the original versions of AUs! He doesn't want to!" Their eyes widened.

"Who would've thought..." We heard a voice, turning around to see Error sitting at the edge of a cliff. He was looking at the stars. He looked so... happy. "... I finally got that off my chest." He sighed as we hid behind a rock. "What now? Did they solve it? Do they believe it?" He suddenly held his head. He then said "I DID tell them. So what? I believe in Blue!" We looked at Blue. He sighed. "I remember this. He has voices in his head that like to call him worthless or stupid. I'm starting to think that they were put there by Fate when she made him." My eyes widened as I remembered one of our more recent battles.

*Flashback*

I watched as Error looked at the code of a brand new AU. I kept telling myself that he never destroys the originals as he assessed the AU's past. "So... Chara's plan succeeded thanks to a little girl? I can take that. The Fallen Ones will be sad that this Chara's really gone through." He then clutched his head. He then said "Yeah, I know. Destroy copies. Give me a minute." He looked over the codes once more before leaving. He really is crazy.

*Flashback over*

It all made sense now. I felt guilt rush over me. I thought he was crazy for something he didn't have control over! We were about to leave, deciding to ask questions later when we heard him shout. "Jump? NO, YOU DUMB*SSES! THE MULTİVERSE WOULD CRUMBLE WITHOUT ME!" We just stood there, shocked as he clutched his head again. "No, not yet. I only destroy new copies, remember? Ink hasn't made a new copy yet, so I-we can relax a bit. Go to sleep or enjoy the stars in the sky, because we'll be here for a while." Then, he suddenly screamed in pain, clutching his skull. His eyes were blocked by Error signs as Dream suddenly fell backward. Blue rose up to try and go to Error, but a portal opened before we could, revealing Nightmare. "Not again!" He shouted, running to Error. Error shivered at his touch as he hugged him, calming him down. "Are you ok?" He asked as Error came back to reality. He nodded, telling him what happened with us. "Call me if you need anything or have any news, ok?" Nightmare said in a surprisingly comforting tone, making Error nod as he left. He held his head once again before saying "Oh shut it and go to sleep. I have to explain this stuff to the ones behind those rocks over there. Come out now, I can see your shiny codes from here." Our eyes widened as we walked out, slightly embarrassed.

"Ask a question, I'll answer. One by one." We nodded. I took charge, asking the first question. "We know you don't want to destroy, so why keep it up?" He sighed. "When you can do the things I can but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you. When I can destroy copies of AUs, but I don't, and then the multiverse collapses from being overfilled, it did because of me." I nodded, a guilty expression appearing on my face. This time, Dream asked, "What did you mean about the multiverse getting overfilled?" He smiled as he nodded. Seems like we're asking the right questions. "You see, the multiverse is like a teacup with a plate underneath that stands on a table." We rose our collective non-existent eyebrows at that. "Let me go on. Creating new AUs is like putting in more tea, which is what Ink does. But, after a certain point, even the plate will overflow, the tea getting on the table. Image that in this scenario, if the tea spills on the table someone will take both the cup and the plate, emptying out them both before shattering them." We stared in shock. "At least, that's what I got from it. My job is to basically clean the plate so that it doesn't spill, which means I can quit when there is no more pouring in." My eyes widened. Did this mean that if I stopped, he would've stopped as well? I looked down in shame and mumbled "I'm sorry... for everything..." He smiled, sympathetic even though I didn't deserve it. "It's okay. It's Fate's fault for not warning you enough. After all, the last time she did was back when you had an AU and all your memories! *sigh* Those were the good days." I looked at him in confusion. He sighed, then said "Let me tell you the story of an unfinished AU of creators, the only one with emotions and broken souls." We got comfortable as he called in the"Bad" Sanses as well, along with Carrot, Classic, Red and Storyshift Chara, telling us about the times of old, before Fate's intervention.

And so, the puppet was set free.

Guys, first of all thank you for 105 reads. Second of all, I'm actually planning I'm making a book that explains The Judge and how he became Error, with some memory erasing and multiversal shenanigans thrown in for good measure, with Undertale_lover001. Bye!
