"Paul" Lydia called from her room, dragging out the 'aw' sound in the name
"What is it Lydia" he replied, sounding slightly impatient
"Can I pretty please not go to school today, and come to work with you instead". She poked her head out of her bedroom door, flashing a pleading and bright smile at her older brother.
"Lyd I-"
"Cmon! I'm pretty sure Alice is in Hatchetfeild with Bill this week!I haven't seen her in forver! And I miss ted!"
"You-you miss ted?"
"Paul he's not that bad"
"Well-"
"Whatever,I'll just go to school and be miserable" she sighed, ducking back into her room and pulling on her denim jacket "maybe I'll join the smoke club with deb"
"That's not fair! You can't do that!" Paul whined, walking into the room with Lydia "you can't threaten me with drugs"
"I can and did!"
"Fine,I'll call you in as sick coz I'm the best brother ever"
"Yeah you are!!". Lydia looked at herself in the mirror, adjusting her ponytail and fiddling with her skirt as Paul called her school. Tomorrow she would have to go back and deal with everyone again but she didn't want to think about that now.
"Lyd,I'm leaving,cmon"
"Alright I'm coming paul!". Adjusting her hair once more,Lydia grabbed her phone and jogged our to where Paul stood, holding the door for her.

"Hey Paul, you're la-is that little Lydia!" Charlotte squealed as Lydia walked in behind Paul
"That would be me!" she giggled, stepping out from behind Paul and being instantly engulfed in a hug by the over-friendly woman. "Nice to see you too Charlotte"
"Oh dear it's been too long! Look at you,not so little anymore I see! You look so grown up!"
"Well I am almost 18 now"
"No way! It seems like just yesterday that paul had started here and you were a little kid!"
"Wow it sounds weird now you say it out loud"
"Well,go on up I'm sure mr Davidson won't mind, you're never much trouble,buh-bye now!"
"Bye Charlotte" Lydia called to the woman as she jogged after Paul who was about to enter the elevator. As the doors closed,Lydia turns to face Paul.
"You do know you don't have to be an asshole to all of your co-workers right?"
"Lydia,don't start this again"
"Just saying"
"Well don't"

Lydia sat on Paul's desk, swinging her legs back and forth and scrolling through her phone. She had been talking to bill who had told her that today was Alices' last night in town. Lydia has to admit she was sort of annoyed that Alice had barley contacted her in the whole week she'd been back.
They had been friends since before Lydia could even remember. Alice was one of the sweetest people you would ever meet in your lifetime. There was something about the girl that could make even the toughest of people melt into her hands.
