As of right now there are 1,240 different species of bats. That's a lot and each one does it's own specific thing that benefits us. A fair amount of these species are currently listed as threatened or endangered as of now though. In the UK alone the bat population has been taking quite the dip and well some people are happy to be rid of these flying creatures, the majority of those know nothing about them or are terribly misinformed.
From all of my research I've gathered about seven main reasons that the bat population is decreasing at an alarming rate. I'll list them all here, but have a separate chapter for all of them to go more in depth on the specific topics.
1. Habitat Loss
2. Building and Development
3. Cat Attacks
4. Lighting
5. Roads
6. Wind Farms
7. White-nose Syndrome
8. Other-if anyone has any other threats to add
It doesn't take a genius looking at the list to see that the majority of these are caused by humans. As sad as it is to say, bats are another victim to our wrath. Whenever we talk about the harm we're doing, we talk about how we effect ourselves, and I know that many people like to joke that the Earth will one day become inhabitable and we're basically force ourselves into extinction. If this is true though, at the rate we're going we're not going to wipe out just ourselves, but every living thing within our reach. Every animal on this planet is important, serves a purpose. We need to stop, we need to help.
