Paul just placed the last box of apples in the shelves before looking at the clock. 14:25. He sighed, he had to wait until 15:55 before to be able to go home. However Claire noticed this.
"You can go home, Paul. I know it's you daughter's birthday." The lady said. "You should spend some time with her."
Paul's eyes lit up instantly. "Really?"
"Yes, now go before I change my mind!" She joked.Paul quickly grabbed his bag and jacked, said goodbye to Claire and walked out of the shop. But before he started walking home, he remembered the letter he received. He opened his bag and took it.
It was a simple white envelope, with only written Paul Robertson on it.
He slowly opened it, slightly afraid of what may be the content of it. He slipped the paper out of the envelope and unfolded it.
Dear Paul
Did you really thought you could escape the past?
Paul shivered at the sentence. He looked up, having the feeling someone was watching him. But the streets were empty.
The answer is no, you can't.
The man started the breathe faster, like he had ran a maraton.
We now you have the girl.
Paul's eyes widen. Not Lotus.
And we're coming to get her.
He wasn't intrested in the rest of the letter. He knew who wrote it and he knew what they could do. And that's why he had to go home, to take Lotus and to leave.
He never made it home any faster than today. But the relief he hoped to find when he arrived at their doorstep, wasn't there.
The door was broken, you could clearly see they forced their way in. Paul carefully pushed the door, looking inside he could see they left, the apartement was empty. The man walked inside, glass breaking umderneath his shoes.
"Lotus?" He asked, scared to be answered with silence. Luckly, he heard a small door open and was greeted with the girl he was looking for. Within a second he pulled her into a hug, breathing in her sent.
"God, I'm so glad you're okay..." He whispered. He pulled away and looked the girl in the eyes. "We have to go, now."
He began walking around the appartement, gathering the things that weren't broken and the things they would definitely need.
But Lotus could only watch, still shocked from the previous events. How could her dad be so calm about this? The girl slowly looked around their appartement, it was a mess.
The chairs have been trown aside. The glass from all their small pictures frames was broken. The plates she washed only a couple of houres ago, were shattered on the ground.
Their home was destroyed. The feeling of her father shaking her shoulders brought her out of her thoughts. Lotus blinked a couple of times. "W-What?"
"Are you okay?" The girl only nodded, not really trusting her voice.
"Here are you bags, I put a many clothes as I could."Paul began to walk towards the door, only to look back when she didn't follow him. "Come on, Lou. We have to go. They could come back any time. It's not safe here."
"Who could come back, Dad? Who are those people who broke in?" Lotus suddenly gathered enough couraged to ask her father.
He responded with a deep sigh. "We don't have time for that right now. I'll tell you when we arrive at the motel."
He took her hand, taking her with him, towards the door. But she pulled it back. "No... No! I am not leaving until you tell me who they are and what they want! No more secrets!" The young girl yelled.
