Earlier this morning, Elkarez had heeded the inn keeper’s advice and left, leaving Toram and I to defend the village. In truth, I wanted to stick with him, but I was unable to resist the urge to help these people in need. Although Elkarez may have disagreed, Toram and I saw eye to eye that help these people was the mandatory action to take.
A knock on the door signaled that Toram had arrived, and his call confirmed that it was him. “Delta, are you ready yet?”
“Almost!” I shouted in reply before bounding into the bathroom, bandana and flame retardant spray in hand. Swiftly, I coated the cloth generously and tied my flaming hair back. Though it would have been better to wear my crash helmet into battle, I realized that I would primarily be using my Psychic attacks, and the helmet would have interfered, thus lessening the power of my attacks.
“Ready to find some troops?” I asked once I had flung the door open. He simply shrugged, his eyes and mood downcast. “What’s wrong?”
Once again, he shrugged, though this time he responded. “I wash jusht hoping that the firsht placshe I came to washn’t ash bad ash being in the maze. It’sh like I can’t remember a time when people weren’t dying.” Closing the door behind me, I patted his shoulder in sympathy.
“Well, at least we’re going to help save this village. And I would have hugged you, but I didn’t think you’d appreciate your clothes burning up from my hair.” He chuckled a bit, and I began walking to my destination. “To the troops?” He grumbled in response before murmuring “Yeah, let’s go.”

“Any questions?” I asked, the measly group of ‘Defenders’ scattered before me. From a village of about a hundred, it could only produce about ten fighters.
A single hand shot up. “Why are you in charge; you’re not even Super Effective against Fighting Types. I mean, I get why Toram’s here, but why you?”
I smirked. “Oh sorry, did I forget to mention something? How about you sit down while I demonstrate.” Ever so slightly, I shifted my hand upwards, channeling my mind’s energy to act like a hand on the boy’s soldier, forcing him to the ground. He simply stared at me, his jaw slack in awe.
“How did you—that’s not—I thought you were a Typhlosion!” He stuttered.
“A Cyndaquil, to be precise, but yeah, you got the gist of it.”
“Th-then how…?”
“I’m a Delta species. You’ve probably never heard of them before. Now, anything else before we get started?”
Slowly, another hand raise, and I nodded for them to continue. “Um… How does your bandana and clothes not catch on fire?”
“Good question. Flame retardant spray and Fire Types’ sweat is a natural flame retardant. Is that all?” They absence of movement cued me to continue. “Cool, now let me show you around, but first, tell me your name and species, starting with you.”
