My heart misses a beat and I rush back to her side.
Rye: "Abrial? Can you hear me? Oh my god you're okay?"
Her eyes flicker open and she looks around in confusion.
Rye: "Abrial? You're in a hospital, you're okay, you were in a car accident...I'll give you some space to adapt and I'll get Karolina."
I step outside ringing Karolina.
Rye: "Where are you?"
Karolina: "I'm on my way to the hospital but I'm stuck in traffic. Why? What's happening?"
Rye: "She's awake!"
I hear her sigh of relief down the phone.
Karolina: "I'm about ten minutes away, tell her I'll be there soon!"
I go back in.
Rye: "Karolina's on her way."
She tries to remove her breathing mask but I stop her.
Rye: "Wait a minute, just till you feel strong enough. Do you remember what happened?"
She nods weakly. I sigh.
Rye: "I'm so sorry about..."
She rips off her mask and kisses me passionately. I pull away.
Rye: Wait what? I'm confused..."
Abrial: "I could hear everything..."
She struggles to speak.
I put her mask back on and hold her hand.
Rye: "You really are something..."
She laughs and I kiss her head.
Karolina: "OH MY GOD ABRIAL, YOU'RE AWAKE!"
Karolina runs over and squeezes her.
Karolina: "You gave us a bloody heart attack! How is she?"
Rye: "She's struggling to speak but I think she's okay."
I smile at her, tucking her hair behind her head.
