Look at Me
Chapter 2
"Misjudging the Bully"
•
Ryder"You look pissed, Ry." Ethan notes when he picks me up. "Who got your boxers in a twist?"
I get in the car and slam the door. "I'm mad at someone and I'm mad at myself." I mumble, fixing my hair in the mirror.
"Talk to me about it." Ethan smirks and pulls out of the parking lot. "Over ice cream. I'll buy, but you gotta do my dishes tonight."
"Fine." I agree and we pull into a local ice cream shop. "What about Kaisley?"
"Kaz has dance." Ethan shrugs and gets out.
"She hates dance." I remind him and follow his lead.
"Too bad." Ethan chuckles. "You can't take her place like you used to, not lookin' like this." He messes up my hair.
I shove him off and he laughs. "What flavor do you want?"
"Strawberry." I mumble and take a seat in one of the booths. Ethan orders our ice cream and joins me a few moments later.
"Now, tell me what's up?" He asks, digging in.
"There's this guy,"
"Ooooooo~"
"It's not like that." I cut him off. "I mean, yeah he's hot but he's a dick. He fucking pushed me down my first day and didn't even apologize. Then today he does it again, only this time he shoves me down the fucking stairs. It still hurts!" I growl. "Then he had the audacity to say it was my fault. He said I should watch where I'm going and then called me a twink." I sniffle. "I just wanted things to be better here."
Ethan nods solemnly. "He sounds like a dick," He confirms. "And a homophobic asshole. Don't worry about it Ry, I doubt he did it on purpose."
"It's whatever." I stab my ice cream. "I just hoped that here, people wouldn't bully me for being myself because they all believe I'm cisgender. But it seems now, I've gone from being the weirdo tomboy to the class fag."
"Oi," Ethan cuffs me. "Don't talk about yourself like that. This was just one douchebag, okay? It doesn't define your life here. I bet you won't even see him tomorrow."
I nod. "I hope not."
"Eat your ice cream." Ethan orders. "We can play some games when we get home if you want."
I force a smile and finish my food, trying to stay hopeful for tomorrow.

I hide my face behind my hair when the guy sits next to me in class the next day. I guess Ethan was wrong, apparently I've been cursed.
I open my pink notebook, hoping he doesn't notice me.
"Hey, Twink, your ass healed yet?" The redhead, who I've decided to call Gingersnap asks.
My shoulders sag and I face the jock. "Don't call me that."
"Why not?" He raises an eyebrow. "You ashamed or something?"
I feel my cheeks heat up and I turn away. "No."
"Then I don't see the problem." I can hear the smirk.
I stare pointedly at my notebook and try to ignore him, hoping he'll get bored and leave me alone.
"I haven't seen you in class before. Are you new? Came here from some land of free love and rainbows?"
I clench my fist. "I'm from Colorado. Just moved here and you're making a great first impression."
