They didn't actually tell me their names until they knew I could and would get them what they wanted. I was just sitting in the common room alone, catching up on some content I missed from my biology class I missed earlier that week when I came down with the flu. They came up to me looking all effortlessly sleek like they do, with their synchronized prowling walk and their almost purposeful-looking smirks. They didn't appear to have a dominant leader figure, they seemed to consider each other equals. I was naïve enough to think somehow I could become equals with them too.
"Here's the deal, we've noticed that you have a rather curious streak - or to be less polite, a nosey streak -... anyway, would we be correct in thinking that you have considerably extensive knowledge of what may or may not happen to be located in the east wing attic?"
The first one to speak to me was a boy. He looked Asian descending, with tousled dark brown hair that curled up at his temples, and had eyes like molten gold. His voice was slightly gravelly, like he had a permanently sore throat. It might have gotten annoying had he not been so entrancing. Instead it felt like tickling your ears when you listened to it. It hadn't yet occured to me that it was a very one-sided 'deal'.
"Um... I suppose so, why would you want to go up there?" I found myself unwillingly questioning him. In my head I wanted to appear cool like them, but I think the fact that I needed to think that already would cancel out any efforts I could put forward.
The next one to talk to me was a girl with purple hair and a voice like honey.
"Oh we'll tell you once you help us find it... you will help us find it won't you?"
Her sugar coated voice sounded like it could irritate someone with a less than sweet tooth, but for some reason it sounded less sickly-sweet and more delicate, like if I disagreed with her she would shatter into pieces.
"I... well alright. Do you want to go now or...?" I kept finding myself at an awkward loss for words. The word 'victim' seemed to come to mind.
The purple-haired honey-voiced girl smiled.
"Oh, would you be so kind?"
With that they left. I think I was supposed to follow them but that didn't occur to me straight away. I knew my way to the east wing attic like the palm of my slighty shaking hand, so I flustered my way over there, hoping they wouldn't notice what a mess I was mentally.
