[Polaris' POV]
I lie on Ashytnn's bedroom floor as she finishes up her French homework. I had finished mine a while ago, so I was just waiting on her. A few minutes later, she lets out a shaky sigh and closes her notebook. I know she's still upset that I have to leave. The next new moon is on May 18th, which is the perfect time for me to go. But, unfortunately, it's less than a month away. My time with Ashtynn is coming to an end.
"You wanna go on a walk, Polaris?"
I smile, tiny stars forming around my head. "I wouldn't mind."
We both get up and leave the townhouse. Keegan gave Ashtynn a curfew of 9:30 PM, but she told me that she wasn't going to listen to him and his "stinky-ass rules".
Ashtynn, already blushing, takes a hold of my hand as we walk through the complex. I smile and squeeze her hand.
I had almost done it—bringing the real Ashtynn back, I mean. She almost looks like herself; she's just got to get rid of the hair dye. Other than that, the world will finally get to see the real her. The one that I had fallen in love with several months ago.
"Where are we going, Ashtynn?"
"Ahh, be patient. We're almost there."
I looked up and realized that Ashtynn was leading us to the woodland area surrounding the townhouse. She stopped just in front of nature's entrance. I stopped next to her, waiting for her to do something. When Ashtynn hadn't done anything for a couple more seconds, I decided to take the initiative, grabbing her hand.
As we approached the forest, I wrapped my cerise coloured sweater around my neck, taking in a deep breath and set off. I could feel the silky smooth leaves brushing against my fingers and hear the melodious chirping of the birds as I let go of her hand and prance ahead. I lifted my head and let the rays of warm, amber sunlight dance across my face. I could see small patches of the clear blue sky peering in through trees as tall as skyscrapers. The tranquil atmosphere in the forest had instantly vanished as I heard crunching footsteps on the leaves. I turned, only to realize that it was just Ashtynn. She linked her arm with mine and we continued to walk through the forest.
I think the point of this walk was to just clear our minds from all the crap that was happening. A lot has happened to Ashtynn because of me being here, so I guess it is a good idea to take a few walks every once and a while.
Suddenly, Ashtynn stops, dragging me with her. I turn back to look at her, tilting my head in confusion. She keeps her head down. I place my hand on her chin, lifting her head up so I can look at her. Ashtynn keeps her eyes averted.
"What's the matter?"
"...I'm still upset that you're leaving."
This is really surprising. Who knew only a matter of 8 months could change someone's view on you. When I first met her, she wanted me to get out of her life so badly. But now, the small girl was standing in front of me with flushed cheeks, telling me that she doesn't want me to leave. And I don't want to leave either. Going back to Ursa Minor would mean another several billion years of making the Orbit until I blow up into a supernova.
"I'm upset that I'm leaving, too. Unfortunately, my other Ursa Minor friends are useless without me there, and I can't do that to them."
Ashtynn sighs. "I know, I know..."
"B-but don't think about it now. I wanna make the time last, you know?"
"Yeah, yeah you're right."
Ashtynn prances ahead of me, dancing a shower of lush, green leaves. A smile is plastered onto my face, but then fades. I tell Ashtynn to forget about it until that day comes, but I can't forget about it myself.
I look around at the beautiful serenity of nature. One day, I won't be able to feel the leaves brush against my arms or the warm patches of sun on my cheeks. I'll only be able to observe from a distance.
A distance away from Earth. A distance away from Ashtynn.
