CHAPTER TWELVE: INDEPENDENCE DAY, PT. 1

Today's the 4th of July.

Every year they have a big event at Everglade Park and every year me & my folks attend.

They have food, games for the kids, waterslides, music performances, and a big firework show.

This will be me & Derrick's first 4th of July as a couple.

I'm pretty excited.

Milan and Garrett went to get fireworks and whatnot.

Dad & Mom went to the grocery store.

Dylan's in his room.

And I'm in my room watching "Independence Day" on Netflix.

My phone started ringing.

It's Sean trying to FaceTime me.

I answered.

SEAN: HAPPY 4TH BRO!!!!

MILES: THANKS. WHAT YOU DOING?

SEAN: I'M RIDING WITH DAMION TO VISIT HIS BROTHER.

MILES: WASSUP DAMION.

Sean put the camera on Damion.

DAMION: WASSUP MILES. HAPPY 4TH.

MILES: HAPPY 4TH TO YOU AS WELL.

SEAN: HE'S STILL RECOVERING FROM LAST NIGHT'S BOMB SEX.

MILES: TOO MUCH INFO SEAN.

He laughed.

MILES: IS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME MEETING HIM?

SEAN: YEAH. DAMION SAYS HE'S COOL. HE KNOWS ABOUT US AND HE'S FINE WITH IT.

MILES: THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS. ARE YOU GUYS COMING TO THE PARK LATER?

SEAN: OF COURSE. I'D NEVER MISS IT. I LOVE THE FIREWORKS SHOW. IT'S MY FAVORITE PART, NEXT TO THE FOOD. HAVE YOU TALKED TO DERRICK?

MILES: YEAH EARLIER. HE'S IN HIS CLOSET PICKING OUT AN OUTFIT. HE'LL BE IN THERE FOR HOURS BEFORE HE MAKES A FINAL DECISION.

SEAN: HOW WAS HIS GRANDPARENTS BBQ?

MILES: I HAD FUN. HIS GRANDPARENTS ARE VERY SWEET. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS. WE PLAYED SPADES AND DOMINOES. I ALSO GOT TO MEET HIS UNCLE NICK.

SEAN: WHAT'S HE LIKE? I KNOW IT MUST BE HARD FOR HIM SINCE HE DISCOVERED HE ISN'T WHO HE THOUGHT HE WAS.

MILES: HE WAS COOL. DERRICK TOLD ME NICK SAID HE'S GONNA GO SEE A DOCTOR ABOUT GETTING HIS MEMORY BACK. I HOPE IT WORKS OUT FOR HIM.
