Maddie's POV :
"Dinner is ready!" The person that gave birth to me yells.
Sighing I put the book I was reading aside and slowly make my way downstairs to the kitchen. There I see them, the people without whom I wouldn't be here at all and also the people who make my life a living hell.
"Took you long enough..." My father mumbles. I think he is drunk...again.
I decide not to say anything, because I know I would regret it the second later.
I quickly sit down and right on cue my mother places a plate with lasagne on it in front of me. She usually never cooks, especially not if it would take her more than an hour, but I guess that was my birthday present.
Yep, it is my 12th birthday and neither my mom nor my dad thought it was appropriate to wish me Happy Birthday. But I knew it was gonna be like that, so I don't waste my time being sad and all. I mean, I have work to do since neither one of them works to support our household. You may wonder : What can a young girl do to pay the bills ? Well, you'll know soon enough....
I wait for my parents to come sit with me, so I could start eating since I was very hungry. After 5 minutes they still aren't there so I ask : "Are you going to eat?"
"We went out, you can eat alone." My mother answers shortly. But her tone doesn't bother me, I am used to this cold voice and evil eyes.
"Turn the radio on. " My father demands while looking at my mother.
She instantly goes to turn it on. As soon as she presses the on button, music blasts through the whole room.
I never heard this song before. I guess it is unfamiliar for me, because this is only the second time in my life I'm listening to the radio. I don't like music at all, but I actually enjoy this song, the rhythm is great. The singer is clearly male, even though his voice is a little bit high. I wonder who the vocalist is, he is awesome.
"Ih this the freak, Wacko Jacko? Turn that shit off, this guy doesn't deserve our attention." My dad shouts after what felt like 1 minutes and 32 seconds.
My mother immediately shuts the radio off.
I really like this guy, maybe not his personality, since I don't know who he is, but his vocals are amazing and it seems like he puts so much passion into his work, so I just had to ask my parents why they had this opinion about him.
"Why doesn't this singer deserve our attention?" I ask politely.
"This guy is Michael Jackson, he is a freak, he doesn't like his race so he bleached his skin, but still claims he has some kind of disease. He also built himself an own amusement park as an adult and wanted to buy the bones of another guy named the elephant man, he's just crazy." My dad answers without looking at me.
I don't understand why a person would hate his or her race, and also, if a person says he or she has a disease, why wouldn't you believe him or her ? I mean, the only people who really know about your health are yourself and the doctor who treats your disease, if you have one. Why wouldn't you believe the person itself?
"But if he says he has a disease, why wouldn't you believe him? The only people who know if this person is lying is the person himself or his doctor and since a doctor isn't allowed to share someones medical history with anyone else than the patient, the only person who could tell the truth is the person who has or hasn't the disease. And also, you can't just bleach your skin, you would need special creams for that and if you don't need or have any reasons to get treated with those creams you won't be able to get them." I explain him. I really am angry at this point and I'm sure my father notices this because of my voice.
