I put the dress on. It was silky against my skin. I hate to say I loved the way it clung to my body while at the same time hugged my every curve. I looked in the mirror that stood in front of me. It was so small I had to back up to the wall to see my whole body.

"Not bad." I turned my head at the sound of Proquan, which was dressed in a black suit with a red tie that matched my dress. It wasn't much but I didn't expect that kind of compliment. Especially not from him. But then again this day, so far, is full of surprises. "You could say thank you instead of checking me out."

That smirk.

"Thank you Proquan, and you look very handsome." I turned back to the mirror checking what was mushed onto my face an hour before.

"These circumstances shed a dark light on a nice evening."

"You can say that again." I half smiled.

"These circum-"

Rolling my eyes, "seriously? Again?"

I watched how his laughter brought out his dimples.

"Makes me think of a fancy party, instead of an auction." I folded my arms. "Maybe if I squint my eyes..."

"You'll be squinting for a long time then."

I took a second to really look into Proquan. No matter what I may have thought about him, he does have a fine heart.

"When does this thing start?"

Proquan looked at his wristwatch. "Pretty soon. We should head out there, Evile wants you to meet his buyers before the event starts."

I couldn't move. I knew that I would be a second closer to being sold, and I couldn't do a thing about it.

I grabbed my bag from when I was given it and began towards the door. "And I thought shit like this only happened in movies."

"You just might get someone unexpected."

My stomach churned. "What does that mean?"

Someone knocked on the door. Proquan opened it and just as I sensed it, an evil presence. Evile. I turned as if trying to shield myself from what that man did to me in disguise.

"We were just heading out." Proquan said

"I see. I just wanted to wish you luck, Avanah." I didn't make any eye contact.

It would take another awkward nine seconds before the clatter of Evile's footsteps to clear the distance. I could feel Proquan's eyes on me, but in the moment, I only gripped my purse and pushed past Proquan and into the hall. I was expecting to see an empty hallway, but instead got six pairs of eyes in my direction. I only hoped that I wouldn't have to make contact with them.

"Avanah."

Don't stop.

"Come here for a second."

Keep walking

I was close to walking back and obeying but Proquan grabbed my arm, "we have a lot to do with little time to work with."

"What's gotten in to you?"Evile asked. I lifted my head to Proquan.

"More money, the better. Right?" I didn't get a chance to see Eviles reaction. Proquan had me out the building in seconds.
